You can't expect many teams will be making it out of a 14-16 team conference undefeated....just isn't realistic. With the conference landscape changing as we speak, there could realistically be 2-3 super conferences in the next 5 years. How much controversy around a playoff do you expect to see when there's an undefeated Texas from it's weak conference, an undefeated Boise from it's weak conference and a 2 loss Bama, Southern Cal or Nebraska from the new super conferences. We know who should probably be in the championship, but i think this forces a playoff.

Nothing will "force" a playoff with the BCS.

Its one or the other, either you like the current system, or we go back to how it was before 1997.

With four 16 team conferences you could have the four champs play each other.

But I bet the NCAA would lose a lawsuit for only letting those four conferences have a shot, but who knows.

Good idea, how wild would it be to see the entire landscape of college football change like this!!

Yeah this. Forget records and subjective polling and retarded computers, you would have the champs play each other.

No they wouldn't because they would never sign off on this "system" just like the BCS. They don't govern how college football determines a champion which is why we don't have official champions or governing body sanctioned champions.

The NCAA sanctions all the other sports/football divisions, why not Division I-A if it moved to a playoff?

Having 4, 16 team Super Conferences is the way to go... People have said before if the BCS would have came up with a playoff in the past it would take away from every game every Saturday meaning so much. So having the 4 Super Conference Champs playing a Semi Final and Championship doesn't take away from every game every Saturday meaning so much, because in all reality you are in a playoff through your yearly schedule...

Perhaps "force" isn't the right word. I guarantee there will be some pissed off schools that are undefeated and left out with 2 loss schools in the championship every year. There is already unrest with the smaller schools being left out of the "payday". It would have the potential to get much worse. Lawsuits might have more merit.

The only issue I see is that you only really need to win your division of 8. That's what the regular season would be. It could make games meaningless at the end of the year for sure. People WOULD be resting starters I can guarantee you that.

I'm hoping the 64 teams start a new sub-division of FBS

Well this is the thing if your playing 4 Super Conferences you just need to divide it all up have the Super Conference National Championship, then have the smaller schools and the schools that are left out of the Supers and put them in their own conf's and let them have their own playoff and National Championships...

This is what would have to happen imo.

Or just relegate them to FCS.

Because like you said, it would be a half-arse playoff...regardless, college football has a long and glorious murky business history. I don't think the NCAA wants to join anything that makes them a third-party to a lawsuit. Who knows if they can even jump in at this late date? Why would big business and the universities even want them involved. They are the ultimate party-pooper.

Big Ten, SEC, Pac-12, and ACC all get 16 teams.

Everyone left out moves to FCS.

You could even do relegation between the FCS and the new 4 Division-I conferences like they do soccer in Europe. That would be pretty damn cool and would never happen.
