ESPN

I thought this comment was pretty bold. If he doesn't get any significant playing staff then he just called the coaching staff "naive." Perhaps it didn't come out the way he really wanted to say it. Save the Germans shite.

quote:

"Coach would be naive to just play (Jefferson and Lee) this year and be preparing for the 2012 season with a quarterback with no game experience at all," Mettenberger said. "I definitely think I'm going to get some meaningful snaps this year and I think I can help the team win this year."

Also basically the same article on SI.com and Bleacher Report. Easy to find.

That is not a good quote from him. As a coach, I would suspend a player for that crap. Either this came out wrong, or there is something internal brewing.

Well yeah thats true. He's not saying the coaches are dumb if they don't start me against the Oregon game. He just means playing time in general. How can anyone deny he needs to get playing time this year?

Too much truth in his statement? Miles would indeed be a fool to go into the 2012 season with 3 QBs with ZERO snaps. I mean, that's why everyone keeps saying Mett shouldn't be given a chance to start this year. Now you want to revisit 2008???

Did it ever occur to you that maybe those are thoughts straight from the coaches? They may have discussed that they would be naive not to play him this year.

Don't trash the kid without knowing the facts.

Suspending your third string QB is definitely a bold move.

If we start the 2012 season with a QB that hasn't taken a snap, we will be pre-season #1....oh wait...wrong team.

You might as well put the other quotes in as well, unless you are trying to tell less than half the story...
quote:

"When I was getting recruited, I didn't look at it as I'm going to come in and start right away," said Mettenberger, whose college career has taken him from Georgia to junior college in Kansas and now to Baton Rouge.

quote:

"Obviously, Jordan is in position to be the winningest quarterback in LSU history," Mettenberger continued. "It's not like I was just going to walk in and take his job. Worst-case scenario, I still have two years to play and for me that's fine. I do look to get some game experience this year, but right now it's definitely Jordan's job -- and Jarrett's the backup."

And the reason the same story is in a few places is because it's an Associated Press story. They get picked up across the country.
