Deer corn prices and ethanol

An old hunter told me today that deer corn prices would remain high as long as the government subsidizes ethanol production. I thought they would go back down after this years corn was harvested.
What does the OutBoard say?

Lots of factors, droughts, floods...and not to mention the fact that the govmemt thinks its a good idea to burn our food.

Between what you have mentioned and the flooding I don't see the prices going down anytime soon.

How much "Deer corn" do you feed? No deer hunter here, just curious how huge of a financial impact this is to hunters.

Corn prices are dependent on far more than just the amount the govn't puts in your gas tank, although that is a pretty stiff influence on it. The amount of corn mills will buy also depends on supply, so to keep the prices where they want them. As demand for deer corn goes up, so will the price.

I haven't looked, what is corn for a 50 lb bag now? I'm about to put some feeders out so I can see what's out there...

Paid 9.50 a bag last week. frick that. Will have a trailer parked under a grain cart auger in a week or two.

Yeah, that's the way to go...

It's cheaper right now for me to feed deer actual food that benefits them. Protein is running me 9.00 a bag right now.

I'm spending about $100 a month on corn right now.

Incredible subsidies driven by corn state politicians and EPA mandates to increase the number of gallons forced into the fuel stream, also driven by corn state politicians, even while overall gasoline demand continues to drop. Paying more for deer corn is frankly the least of our worries. Better worry about being stuck with E-15 (or more), ruining our outboards, go-devils, lawnmowers, weedeaters, more water in our fuel that results, steadily decreasing gas mileage. And sit down and figure out what it's doing to the price of food-and I'm not talking tortillas. What do you think domestic livestock eats?

It takes much more fossil fuel BTUs to produce an acre of corn than it can ever return as a fuel source.
That is all I will say tonight.

A dozen standard mallard decoys at Academy was cheaper than a 10 pound bag of corn today, fwiw.

FWIW I bought 40 lb bags of 18% protien at Academy a week ago for 7.99 a bag but the corn was 8.88. For those that dont know an .88 ending price at Academy means it is on sale.

Standards were $9 per dozen at Academy today.
