I wanted to compare FA's between the two teams and discuss. I'll list the Falcons FA's below but wow, depending on how Thomas Dimitroff and company handle these guys - this could be a BUST of a year for the Falcons. I'll do a little blurb next to each...

Can anyone post the Saints "major" free agents for 2011?

2011 Falcons Free Agents (that I know of):
RBs:
Jerious Norwood - probably done in ATL. Too injury prone.
Jason Snelling - Friggin' bowling ball. ATL should re-sign as he complimented Turner well.

O-Line:
Justin Blalock - Probably gets re-signed as he's the cheapest of the 3.
Harvey Dahl - Probably gone. Slightly overrated in my book too.
Tyson Clabo - I truly believe that Clabo is a must re-sign. If/when Atlanta loses him... look for the O-line productivity to drop.

Linebackers:
Stephen Nicholas - Probably gone to be replaced by younger draft picks the last 3 seasons.
Mike Peterson - Probably gone to be replaced by younger draft picks the last 3 seasons.

Special Teams:
Michael Koenan - A MUST re-sign. Has been one of the better punters in the league the last 3 seasons with Avg. Yards per Punt. Really makes a difference in field position.
Matt Bryant - I feel it's a must re-sign but Atlanta actually drafted a kicker (wtf?) in the 7th round so it signals the end of M. Bryant sadly.

In short, after reviewing this - Atlanta's D, O-Line and Special Teams is probably going to get ravaged once this new deal gets signed. If that's the case - sigh - this hurts to say, but Atlanta may finish 2nd or even 3rd in the division in 2011.

Ugh, I need a drink!

I wish this board had a "Rival Central" type section as I realize I should've made this post somewhere like that... ah well.

I root for two NFL teams, the Saints, and whoever is playing against the Falcons each week.

Yeah dude, I hate to say this (not really) but I think your birds are gonna take a step back this season. The Saints however will win it again (the division) and play in the NFCCG to go to the big dance again.

Exactly.

Except I do like the Raiders and Jets for some reason as my secondary teams

You guys drafted Norwood's replacement.
Snelling has been vital to Atlanta's offense. Very underrated player, IMO.

Yeah, if Clabo goes, you're fricked.

Matt Bryant is the real Matty Ice.

This is one of the reasons why I tried to tell you that I thought yall were gonna be behind the Bucs this year. They have like 60 million to spend in free agency. You guys are gonna lose some guys.

We will lose some guys too. But I dont think we will lose key guys. As long as we sign Roman Harper we will be OK. I want us to sign Lance Moore and Zach Strief but we can live without them. Carl Nicks will be a RFA and we need to sign him but somebody would have to give up alot to get him.

Heres all of ours.

6 years or more experience: * LB Scott Shanle, * C Jonathan Goodwin, * FB Heath Evans, S Darren Sharper, DT Anthony Hargrove, DE/DT Jimmy Wilkerson, RB Julius Jones, RB Ladell Betts, LB Danny Clark, LB Kawika Mitchell, S Pierson Prioleau, S Matt Giordano.

5 years experience: * S Roman Harper, * WR Lance Moore, * TE David Thomas, OT Zach Strief, WR/KR Courtney Roby, CB Leigh Torrence.

4 years experience: * LT Jermon Bushrod, * DT Remi Ayodele, DE Jeff Charleston, LB Marvin Mitchell, S Usama Young, S Chris Reis, TE Tory Humphrey, RB DeShawn Wynn.

3 years experience: * G Carl Nicks, LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar, LB Anthony Waters.

The ones in bold are the ones I think we resign. Just my opinion.

Interesting Meateye. FA happens every year obviously but this year has a very different feel to it with the lockout.

I personally hope the Falcons don't sign a DE off the FA list as soon as it opens up. I think the DE's that are available are average, at best, compared to the $$$ they're asking. Here's to hoping that Biermann develops into a legit DE this year for ATL!

Hopefully by Monday/Tuesday this thing will be over and God knows what teams are going to look like by late next week.

I'm pretty excited about the potential dirty bird losses.

Clabo would like to come back but in all likelihood thay won't pony up the $35-45mil needed to keep him.
LINK
His replacement will be a 5th Rd pick who has played 24 pro snaps

Harvey Dahl more likely gone than back- the Falcons are confident they have versatile youngsters who could fill the gaps should free agency negate 40 percent of their starting offensive line, as expected.
LINK

Pretty well accepted by all the Norwood won't be back.
LINK
They drafted Jacquizz Rodgers in the 5th Rd

Snelling sounds like he wants to go wherever he can get the most touches in this interview. 50/50 back?
LINK

The longer term success in the division might be determined from the past draft. Julio Jones could be good but will only touch the ball 3-7 times a game. Ingram has the same potential but could have a much more dramatic impact with 15-20 carries a game. The bigger head to head impact might be the cost...
SAINTS- minus 2011 2nd Rd pick + 2012 1st Rd pick
dirty birds- minus 2011 1st Rd pick, 2nd Rd pick, 4th Rd pick + 2012 1st Rd pick, 4th Rd pick

The loss of what those picks might have turned into could be crucial with both teams in the same salary cap neighborhood currently. Just a lot more potential loss for the birds.

---
props to the OP if by "this could be a BUST of a year for the Falcons." you are coming to a Saints board to express your fears. I would too. Didja notice Michael Turner only averaged 3.58 YPC in his last 5 games against mediocre run D teams? Hefty 29 year olds can get real slow real fast. Ya better pray they sign a Jason Babin or Ray Edwards cuz father time is looking at Abraham too. Tony Gonzalez is first ballot HOF but also teetering on the edge of age where yer falling down the canyon (under 10ypc in '10)- no viable TEs on the roster beyond him.

The only two professional teams a root against each week are the Saints and Auburn.

Nice Meat

Nicks Bushrod Moore and Harper will be the ones to hurt the bank. The rest we could I think get a good value on.

The only one I don't see re-signed is Clarke. And I could see Tory Humphreys re-signed due to how thin we are at T.E..

I hope that Sharper has somthing in the tank. He would stay for cheap and I just don't want him to go just yet.

I just mean that by secondary I am a fan of their team, but I am not very emotionally invested.

ohh yeah, I am a huge raiders bandwagon fan!
