One thing that may be of interest to some of you.

If you will notice the commission has changed the traditional dates for youth weekend.

I got a letter asking for my opinion on this from a freind of mine at the LDW&F. The commission is activley seeking input on this change.

I myself and ADAMANTLY against it in the west zone. I have taken youth hunting almost every year in the west zone on youth weekend and it is typically an amazing hunt for the youth. I think moving it would be a HUGE mistake.

The East zone may very well work better between the splits, I have never hunted the east zone for youth weekend so I can't comment.

Anyway contact the wildlife commission if you have feelings on the subject.

I can't wait for September, hard to believe it's less than two months away until teal season.

In response to the above, I too am for keeping the Youth Weekend prior to the season opener in the East Zone. The main push for this change is coming from a small group of Northeast La hunters who claim that they never have water or ducks to take a youth hunting. On the contrary, I know of plenty of folks who hunt fields who have water and ducks and enjoy the youth weekend where it is currently. I personally hunt coastal marsh and we most always have birds.

Also up for change is taking a week out of the East Zone 1st split and putting it in the second split. Again, this is being pushed by a group of Northeast La hunters. Feel free to share your thoughts on these proposed changes by emailing Mr. Larry Reynolds at lreynolds@wlf.la.gov

As a NELA hunter, I must say that I'm all in favor of a longer second split. We usually don't even bother to go during the first split.

The small group of NE Louisiana hunters is a hell of a lot bigger than you think. I would love a later season up here.

It really sucks when you're sweating your arse off in a blind in late November the birds know it too! Had a solid last few weeks though!

We don't even go. At that time we would much rather be sitting in a deer stand. We had a lot of mallards in our beaver ponds the last week of the season. If we had another week we would have almost made it worth the effort.

Limits won't be set until later in the year, normally mid to late August.

I LOVE adding a week to later in the season for the East zone.

I am all for all the proposed changes with the exception of moving the youth hunt in the west zone. Last two years my youths have shot over a case of shells a picece during youth weekend. That my freinds is kids having a blast, I see no reason to change it. Especially since the weather that early typically favors taking younger kids hunting i.e. not too cold.

Limits will be similar to last year. I'm figuring that we'll again get 2 pintails which is great. Mottleds I'm figuring will stay at 1/person/day, haven't heard any talk about changing that anytime soon. All of this, including season dates will be set at the August 4th meeting and likely accepted by USFWS shortly thereafter.
