This will be my first trip outside of La where I actually like "good" beer, so I've basically only had what we get in La and nothing else. I consider myself a hophead, but I like Belgian styles, stouts, etc. as well. I wanted to know of a good store in gulf shore/orange beach with a good selection of beer that is not distributed in La.

I also want some recommendations on what beers I should/can get. I know I want to look for Bells and Sweetwater, but I need other recommendations. I probably won't want to drive all the way to Pensacola, but if I do, what should I look for there?

Chan's is in Destin so that's likely too far from you.

I think Pensecola has Four Winds?

That would be the best place to go honestly. I doubt it's that far from you.

They have Bells, Smuttynose, Brooklyn, Weyerbacher, Victory, Southern Tier, maybe Cigar City. I'm not sure exactly what the Belgians look like as I stick to American craft when I buy out of state because Louisiana gets a damn fine Belgian line up.

It's an hour from my condo according to mapquest. Probably too long for me, seeing as I'm only there for the weekend.

Yeah, the only breweries I've been looking up is American craft breweries. Florida gets a whole lot more than Alabama. Might have to make the trip.

I've been to the coast numerous times. I'd just make the trip to Four Winds. You will find everything you want there. Orange Beach/Gulf Shores really doesn't have many stores, if any. I'd say go to Chan's but that's probably and hour and a half to 2 hours from where you are.

Winn Dixie has the best beer selection in GF or OB which isnt saying much. I thought LA was bad until i came here. It will be worth the trip to Florida to stock up for the trip home. Its an easy ride to Pensacola.

You got that right. Within the last 3 years the quality has quadrupled what it was before.

I had to searching around to find the name of the place, but there is a store in Orange Beach called Grape Escape. It is more of a wine store, but they have a selection of nice brews. I know I have bought Bells Two Hearted there in the past few years. Look it up for the address. I am pretty sure it is in a shopping center with a Winn Dixie or some other grocery store.

Grape Escape is behind Hazel's on Beach Rd (182). Great wine selection as well as great sandwiches. About a half mile west of 161.
Try a Yuengling from PA.
Rotolo's has the best beer selection on the isle (16 craft beers on tap, another 7 in bottles).

I love when Louisiana folk hype up Yuengling. I guess not having something makes it great. I remember in 2002 when it was still 3 bucks a sixer (the same as high life).

You won't find a lot of great beers in GS and OB. Grape Escape has some and the Winn Dixie might still be doing a pick a six (make your own six pack). The cater to their customers. People at the beach want Corona, Heineken, Red Strip, Bud and Bud Light.

Alabama did free the hops so you will find a lot of high gravity boutique beers you won't find in other states. Mmmm Highland's Brewery...Duvel...Jubel...3 Brothers...

Alright I quit drinking for the most part so I need to back out of this thread.

Four Winds in Pensacola would be your best bet but this is on the way in Mobile:

Yuengling that's about the last fricking thing I would get. I'd just by Bud Light or Pabst at that point.

When I'm in Florida, I always pick up SweetWater, Terrapin, Kona, Ommegang, Bell's and Dogfish Head. You may be able to find these in the area you're visting, not sure? Chan's in Destin is great, but sounds like it's too far for you.

The Piggly Wiggly on Hwy 59 in Foley has one of the largest Craft Beer selections in Baldwin County. (and no, I am not kidding)

EXACTLY!! I see nothing about Yuengling worth the hype. I'd buy Pabst way before spending the money for Yuengling.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys

I really want to go to four winds, but I'll probably hold off until I have more money to spend. So, I'll probably try the winn-dixie in foley and/or Cottage Hill in Mobile, and stop by Grape Escape because I'll be in that area at some point or another.

I'm sure I can find Bell's, Sweetwater, and Terrapin out of the places listed.
