If southern athletes grew up playing soccer would the US team dominate or be expected to win every tournament ala basketball.

This is me plan for making the US a soccer superpower:

We have approximately 12 million illegals in this country and growing. Tell those kids who's parents aren't legal that they will be granted citizenship if they enter our soccer camps at a young age and train to play soccer for the US. Obviously there would be some sort of evaluation to bring in only serious potential athletes. I don't condone illegal immigration at all, I do however condone the US not sucking at soccer. This is clearly unrealistic but this is how I would solve it, no matter how idiotic and costly it may be

I understand your point but imo (which don't mean much) if soccer was as big in the south as football the US could field a team full of Dempseys.

This was probably a bad way of asking the question:

Would the US be the best if more of their top overall athletes played soccer and not football/basketball/baseball

We will not own anything until we change our youth soccer. Overseas, under 17 players get on Club teams. They practice soccer. That's it. Here they go to high school and don't get the same kind of practice. Also, the level of competition here is not the same caliber. The whole youth system needs to be revamped to become a major player in Soccer.

Is this what you meant?

Yes, we would own the world like any other sport that we put our top resources into. Anyone who says otherwise is being a soccer elitist and would rather take solace in knowing the game better than your typical American.

Generally speaking, you're correct. I only assumed you meant it b/c of the type of question you asked. Carry on.

And yes, I would agree.
