Heading to BSL later today. I'll be there till Friday. Are there any decent places to eat down there. I'm open for pretty much anything.

Ricky's or Trapanni's for seafood. BB's has good BBQ. Mockingbird Cafe has pretty good sandwiches and hamburgers.

Sycamore House in town is excellent and West End on highway 90 is pretty good too. Also, there is Shaggy's across the bridge in Pass Christian.

The restaurants are:
The Sycamore House - fine dining but also serves pizzas and has a cafe menu. Really cool joint, make reservations for dinner.
Trapani's - seafood and steak joint. I usually stick with trout or flounder, they serve them topped with one of four sauces or almandine. Place is legit, suffering from a poor location. They're building back on the bay. GREAT meatball poboy - this is where you go for a poboy anyway but that meatball one brings the heat.
The Jourdan River Steamer - north of the BSL/Kiln exit on the river. Really well run place that serves steamed seafood (lobster, royal reds, crabs). They have great apps and specials, place is really fun. Expensive, but a quality experience.
West End - pretty far from BSL in Waveland. Legit, have had many good meals there.
French Charley's - In the Pass, good wine bar and upscalish food. I think they have a new menu that I can't really talk to.
Shaggy's - same owner as above, good burgers and a real nice place to have a drink and enjoy the breeze.
Old Cuevas Bistro - up on Menge, probably the best place anywhere around here. Out of the way for sure but so worth it. Not white table cloth, but I have never heard someone say they didn't like it.
Jack's - By the train depot. Steak joint with good baked oysters. Real nice bar if you're having trouble finding an adult (35+) place to hang out, this is it.
Cuz's - On 603. Boiled and fried seafood. Also a market for fresh stuff.
Sloppy Dogs - On second in the bay. Some good-arse hot dogs.
Cafe by the train depot - never eaten there since it's open only during my work hours. Menu looks good - worth a shot.
Clawzillas - never eaten there. Good market for shrimp, crabs, or crawfish. I imagine their food is good.
Buttercup - meh breakfast joint, if you need breakfast and are too cool for wafflehouse this is the only other option.
Ricky's - seems to have a following, I see it on a wait. I've never really enjoyed it a whole lot, but they have huge portions and serve all kinds of stuff.
Hope you enjoy our little slice of heaven. I can break down the bar scene if you need, or whatever.

Did anyone get the Tataki app? Or the Duck Pate? Both look interesting.

D'you enjoy BSL? Crab Fest it at all?

I've been going to the Crab Fest since I was 10, my grandparents have had a house in Waveland since before I was born.
BSL blows though...
The place could be great, but the 'old guard' have kept it in the dark ages. Once Chet gets his stuff going, Trapani's goes back to their rightful place, and Beach Rd. is finally topped - I hope it becomes a little livelier again.
I mean, most of the places we passed on the Sunday, the weekend of the 4th of July, were closed.
I don't know... It has the potential, but the community seems to want to hold it back.

Yea, I think there are a couple of factors keeping it back. There is the old old guard and the young old guard and I think they have very different opinions of what BSL should be. The young old guard fights their arse off, and puts their money where their mouth is, but it's an uphill battle. I'm friends with a group of influential young folk, mid 30's, that fight the oldies every damn step of the way. I hear em bitching constantly, but they go to every damn meeting, opening...They'll get their way, but hopefully it's not too late.
The other factor is straight insurance cost. I pay $7000 in home insurance costs per year and I live 3 blocks from the beach. Can't imagine what it's like to insure a business.

That one across from shaggys is way better . It's called "French" something.

French Charley's, and it's the same owners as Shaggy's. They just opened a huge deck off to the side and I think they are going away from Tapas with the menu. Everything I've had there has been good.

French Charley's
Went there Friday night.
Food was decent, but the service...
I wasn't expecting much, but it was bad.
Decent little wine list though.

It's where we go to drink and talk, but not really eat. I'll get the cheese plate or something light, but I have never had luck with service outside of sitting at the bar.
Not really sure which direction they're taking it in, seems to have morphed from the original concept. They are building a boutique hotel in the parking lot, so I think he's trying to line up everything concept wise. Not sure what that is though. Still the best place for drinks while in work attire.

Is that what's going up across the street - I saw the footings for it and was wondering...
My dad is pretty involved in the community down there, so I get to hear a lot about the comings and goings of things. Which is sometimes interesting, though most times not.
The Mockingbird just confuses the shite outta me, and I mean EVERYTHING that involves the Mockingbird.

Oh yea. I went to the going out of business party and then it was reopened like two days later. Good times. The accountant (blonde usually working) bought into it so the original owners could make a clean separation. But yea, the business concept would be strange - if they had one.

Exactly. My parents were there, as well...

Again, I feel that potential is being smacked down by bad decisions. Alicein's and the communities...
Hell, it's a freaking coffee/sandwich shop in a 'tourist town' that is CLOSED on Sunday! What?!

Thanks a lot for the list. Think ill try to make it to a couple of your suggested places and ill try to get back to you on reviews. I'm just happy to be out of my restaurant for a couple of days. I'll also take any suggestions on a decent watering hole. Might get out tomorrow night.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

How about thanks for my RA that got this moved from the Rant to the proper board?
