So I just moved to Boise, Idaho and recently found out about the Chinese Government buy a substantial amount of land south of the city in order to build a massive industrial complex. I did a bit of research and the Governor of Idaho says its to help industrialize the state.
The Japanese were on a US real estate binge in the eighties. Eventually the prices went down and they dumped all that stuff. We got the title back AND got to keep the cash that they paid for it.
I'm not a free trader, I think it's one of the worst things to happen to this country and the root of a lot of our economic troubles. OTOH, the thing about real estate is you can't pick it up and take it anywhere. Not matter who owns that property, it's going to stay right here in the US.
