I found this on Oregon's website:
quote:

Cliff Harris: Clocked 4.79 seconds in the electronic 40-yard (third amongst defensive backs) during winter conditioning.

He's only 5'11 165 and runs a 4.8? Ridley ran faster than that at the combine and he was "slow" by RB standards. Are all of their positions this slow? We're going to be bigger and faster than them. I expect a full on raping of them after a full summer to learn assignments as defending them just requires assignment football.

Their speed is on offense with their skill players. When you hear about the speed comparisons to the SEC it's meant for the defensive front 7s. THAT'S where the SEC has the speed advantage. The whole fricking league is like an NFL minor league.

I've still got 4 years of eligibility left...with a few months of conditioning I think I could walk on and get some playing time in that backfield...you think?

Exactly. Remember how much Auburn's DLine was blowing up Oregon's? And that was mainly just Fairley..Can't wait to see what a stout DLine can do!

That has to be a misprint. He had 4 PR Tds last season.

It's more than just 40 times with Oregon.

It's the pace at which Oregon operates AND the speed of their athletes that can wear out a defense. Forcing three and outs early in the game will be key for LSU IMO.

he did run that slow. bison posted a link a few months back where they ran that outside in 20 MPH rain gusts during cold weather. it is a lie.

We are faster, but they are the fastest team in the PAC

It always is, but if their 3rd fastest DB, and #1 return man, runs a 4.79 and is only 5'11 165, they should be very concerned.

I would not put a lot of stock in those numbers. I bet it is the difference between hand timed 40s on a track and electronically timed 40s on a football field. La Michael James ran a 4.59 in their winter conditioning drills (the fastest on the team). He runs around a 10.6 100m in real track events. Those two numbers do not equate, he is much faster than his 40 time shows. The same is probably true for the rest of the team vis-a-vis the 40 times from winter workouts.

Actually, Oregon isn't the fastest team in the Pac. "Speed" no longer means how fast your athletes are, as it is just what the media calls teams who run big play offenses and how fast they "snap" the ball.

Oregon didn't hit the corner once last year in the National title game, but McCaleb burnt their whole defense to the corner more than five times... Oregon did still have some big plays but they came from Oregon's offensive scheme...

I would like to see a study done on teams... the mean 40 yd time of each teams starters and see the real results.

Oregon's speed is execution speed.

LSU's speed is individual/physical speed.

I can see how he needed some wheels to get around town...walking to a coffee shop off campus would be like running a marathon for him...
