As a proud Lafayette native I'd just like to say...thats right MFers.
Let's just hope Prejean's brings home the grand prize for us.

I like Prejeans, but there are better joints in Lafayette.
But I am glad Lafayette is up there. We have great food here.

How is Lafayette considered a "small town"? Doesn't it have like 130,000 people??
how did it beat out Kaplan?? Sonic, McDonald's, EconoMart, Brother-in-law's....

I'll agree there are some better places to eat in lafayette then Prejeans. Its just one of the most well know, and they do have damn good food.
What do yall think are a few others that this judging team should be trying?

I'm a Lafayette resident also, and the cajun food here bores me. Prejean's, Don's, and Riverside have had the same menu for 30 years. The tourist love it for sure but I've had enough. With that said, I did have a very good meal a Cafe Vermilionville last week.
I spend alot of time in N.O., and the food there is hands down better.

Love them or hate them, they are trying to at least offer some alternatives to the standard fried seafood/etouffee/fried seafood covered with etouffee that makes up about 80% of restaurants' menus in Lafayette. I don't know if that began with James Graham, but they seem to have attempted to continue his efforts to at least incorporate some classical French techniques with Cajun ingredients in addition to a traditional Cajun menu. The homogeneity of the menus/food, plus the general laziness of the restaurants is why I think the food in Lafayette sucks.
Prejean's, Don's, and Riverside have had the same menu for 30 years.

You sir, are not eating at the correct places. Try Ruby's, Laura II's, Pop's Black Pot, etc...
if you are still bored, then I guess there is no pleasing you.

I guess I exagerrated a bit, and I still eat at all of those restaurants. I love a good bowl of crawfish bisque, one of my alltime favs.
James Graham was the man. I still think his chicken/sausage gumbo (still served at Prejean's I think) is the best in town.

The plate lunch places like you mentioned are very good in their class. You left out T-Coon's by the way, another personal favorite. I frequent them often and enjoy the food very much. But I doubt the "rice and gravy" will be included in the competition. As good as they are, they are not the best we have to offer.

They are good, like what Lea Chase does in N.O. is good.
Lafayette has some respectable fine dining also, like Cafe Verm, Italian Food Market, French Press, Pamploma, Ruth's Chris, Mazen Grill, and probably a few others.
