A fair number of people on this board seem to study and know investment vehicles. How would you rank them in order of preference for someone wanting to invest a million for retirement? Assume current age 62; or if you prefer list different rankings for different ages.

I don't know about ranking, but if I was 62 years old sitting on a million cash, I would have a 50% stocks, 40% bonds, and 10% cash portfolio. Extremely diverse among stocks and bonds. Probably look into low risk short term retirement funds.

We can only pick one vehicle? That's rough.
I would probably go with a floating global bond portfolio.

Any thoughts on variable annuities?

I would probably go with a high rated bond or a CD if you are 62.
A lot depends on your lifestyle during retirement.
