Pete Carroll Comments on Stripped USC Title

Former USC coach and now Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll told 710 ESPN Los Angeles his thoughts on the NCAA recently stripping the Trojans of their/his 2004 title...
quote:
"Just watch the comments of the players. They know. They know who won and who didn't," he said. "You've heard from (Matt) Leinart and Lofa Tatupu and those kinds of guys, they all know. The whole thing is so unfortunate. It's just so far off-base, it's just too bad."

"Nothing that's happened has changed my thoughts," he said. "It's unfortunate that kids, years after, are punished for something the NCAA is dealing with from years and years before. Kids that were in junior high at the time, or in grade school, are paying the price for it."
With Ohio State now in the spotlight for similar allegations of improper player benefits, Carroll would not compare the two situations but said any decision by the NCAA would be tricky.
"I think this is a major challenge for the NCAA because of what they have done in the past here recently. I don't know how they're going to possibly make sense out of all this," he said. "It's going to be very challenging and it'll be very interesting to see what happens."

his thoughts
USC had an impressive 10-0 season in 2004. Then they failed to see that one of their players was ineligible. Gotta pay.

quote:I like him. I actually liked the way he stuck to his guns about the 2003 controversy years later. "Our goal every year is to go to the Rose Bowl; if someone else wants to invite us to some other type of game, we'll be happy to consider that."
Gotta love Pete Carroll
There's something I admire about the defiant attitude and aversion to saying anything about hoping to go to the BCSCG, which no USC team has ever won.

It's also unfortunate that you were able to hightail it out of town just before the hammer dropped, thereby avoiding the very punishment those poor junior high kids are now suffering

Well they have been doing just that almost every year.

The real victims here are the people who paid the money to go to the 2004 USC/UCLA game and the 2005 Orange Bowl and didn't get to see two eligible teams play. An substantial amount of sympathy goes to the Oklahoma fans who paid to see the 2005 Orange Bowl; they paid to see a championship game, and their team didn't even get to see their team play an eligible opponent.
I do wonder if one day there will be a class-action lawsuit on behalf of fans who pay hundreds of dollars, only to see one or more of the participating schools fail to put an eligible team on the field.

it is also interesting kiffin decries the ncaa punishing usc today when the people there today are different
of course he was there but kiffy mcdouchypants doesn't emphasize that

ACtually, that is incorrect as it is written.

The "something" in question was a player ruled ineligible due to receiving improper benefits – not a trivial “something.”
The punishment came “years after” because of USC’s steadfast refusal to cooperate with the NCAA investigation.
The kids are “paying the price for it” because they’re in the program – the program that got punished due to a player receiving improper benefits. The coach could’ve stuck around and paid the price too, but chose not to.

Exactly. Don't hate the game, hate the player. After all, it's not as if this was USC's first NCAA violation. It was their sixth. And just about every previous citation includes the phrase "extra benefits".

I'm sure they are still devastated over the loss of 40 bucks 7 years later.

We fricking get it...USC was 10-0 that year, I'm sure if you polled them the OU fans would be far more traumatized by the fact that their team got WAXED than from the horrors of having to play a team with a well compensated running back.
PC should just shut up this is making him sound even worse.

This is the only thing I agree with. You can strip teams of titles, and whatever, but you can't change what happened on the field. But for him to say this is all way off base, and too bad? That is just delusional.

Fellatio often requires bowing.

So petey resurrects his career by paying players. Jumps ship to the NFL, and then says the NCAA is being unfair?
Sounds about right
