Huge saints fan and big time football fan here. From new Orleans area and saints season ticket holder since 2000. Love football and consider my self pretty knowledgable but I'm not a coach just a fan. New to recruiting but have become seriously interested over the last 3-4 years. Not sure why but its a little addicting. I watch what film or gametape I can find but want to get some opinions. I like to get yall thoughts on and how yall rank Louisiana "defensive ends". I put them in quotations cuz I know sum might be considered LB or DT

I like Davis and Devall. Don't know much about Lathan but I hear he is pretty good. Also Bell is from John Curtis. I read somewhere that Miss State offered him. Not sure if that is true though.

Edit: Typo on "Lathan"

It's Lathan with an N. He's Mingo meets Mutombo. I swear that kid blocked 2-3 passes per game last year.

1.Toshiro Davis-Freak of nature, LSU commit
2.Denzell Devall-Second by a slim margin to Davis. Beast who has the perfect DE body, but he is very versatile he is being recruited for three different positions depending on what school you are talking about.
5.Terrell Latham-Would be higher if her were healthy all last year. I think he could have a big senior season and possibly join Davis and Devall as the three DEs this year.
4.Julien Obioha-Another guy who could see an LSU offer, very good off the edge. Under the radar until this year ALOT of schools came to watch him practice this spring
7.Alonzo Williams-A&M commitment. Solid player but not fast enough for what Chavis wants out of his DEs
6.B.J. Singleton-Had alot of sacks last year as a big DE, but will move inside once he gets to college
3.James McFarland-High motor guy who plays DT for his HS but has a great DE body already, all he needs is about 10 to 15 pounds and he is ready to go. Id say he is probably an LSU commitment after the July camp. Was a TCU commit
8.Torrey Bell-Probably a Miss St. guy. Good player
9.Tylor Harris-Mid-major guy
10.Duvall Jackson-Academic issues

Hope this helps bra

I dont understand the hype for Devall. He hasnt done much the 5 times i've seen him. Lathan is unblockable when healthy and has the perfect DE body with room to fill out. McFarland is a DE not DT. He's an active/productive player but may have limited upside ala Josh Downs.

I know McFarland is a DE but he plays DT for his HS. And Ive heard similar things about Lathan, hopefully we give him a chance to show us something his senior year

Not when I've seen him. Chuck Hunter and Marklyn England(13) were their DT's last year. Mc was LDE.

Where did this come from exactly? I've seen this said several times on here. He didn't play DT for WM last year. He was and still is a DE.

My bad.. Ive never personally seen WM play, but all the things Ive read have been along the lines of "he is a DT in Hs, but will slide outside in college."

My fault

JJ27,

Thanks for the name correction. So Lathan clogs passing lanes well.

In ur opinion how do you feel he does against the pass? Quick first step, gets off the snap fast, uses hands well, any repertoire of pass moves, etc.

How about against the run? Sets the edge and keeps contain, fights off blocks good, slides down the line of scrimmage well, wraps up while tackling, can he handle double teams, etc.

Thanks for the info you've giving me already

Haha u was right. Good for Bell, congrats to him. Another D-1 Loisiana boy.

So you can see five of these guys having a LSU offer. I know Toshiro Davis and Denzell Devall have offers already. Do u or anybody know if the offers are at LB or DE?

So in ur opinion(and I know its ur guess but u seem pretty knowledgeable) u see McFarland next, then possibly Obioha, and then possibly Lathan?

Any chance we end off takin Alonzo Williams from TAMU?

Im pretty sure Torshiro is being recruited as a LBer, but I think he will play DE. And I thought Devall was being recruited to play DE, but appareantly, according to him, he is being recruited for LBer. So, if thats true, then I think McFarland, Lathan, and Obioha all end up getting offers to play DE. I dont think Alonzo Williams is as good as these three.

My rankings were based on what these guys play in HS. IMO, Torshiro Davis is the best DE in LA followed by Devall, but, appareantly these guys are being recruited as LBers to LSU. Which seems ridiculous going by how many LBers we currently have commited and are still actively pursuing. But as far as McFarland, Lathan, and Obioha are concerned, I think alot will be cleared up after the July camp, if not then then some time during their senior seasons after the staff gets a look at them.

Thanks alot. Yea u right bout the amount of LB. With Fiest, Granier, Lamar Louis, and Toshiro that's 4 already. Add Devall and Lorenzo and that's 6. And even though Deion Jones is a physical specimen with the measurables and is coming on strong I like Otha peters intensity and Richie Browns instincts. Throw in Lloyd Grogran and that's 10 linebackers that could be scholarship worthy. That does make the DE crop look less impressive though. Wut LBs u think end off with offers?
