Hoop Nets/ Slat Traps

When I was a kid we had a camp right on a bayou and we used to catch a lot of catfish in them. Any hoop neters out there?

Champlin Net Co. in Jonesville was the place we got them and our cheese.

My family bought hoop nets from them for years... they even made a batting cage net for us back in the 90's.

I used to get gill nets from Champlins, I get catfish traps from them, but recently started going to that store on 84....they have some pretty cool stuff.

I have been thinking of getting one. How much does a new hoop net cost?

Man, I used to bag up the cheese for our bait shop and that is some nasty shite.

We would get all the outdated cheese from a local distributor and put it in 55 gallon drums all summer. When we would open the drums at the end of the summer, there would be about a 4-5" layer of oil and grease on top of all the rotten cheese.

It was a lovely job to scoop that shite out by hand and bag up in 20# bags.

My neighbor has a couple that get run from time to time. One is tied to my dock. Last time I ran them was on Christmas day a couple of years ago. Three traps provided 160 catfish that day. I kept 60 good sided fish and then spent way to long cleaning fish on Christmas day. Now that I have my fish light, we just go out a catch a few sac-a-lait as needed…

My buddies and I set some hoop nets at his camp couple months ago and caught a ton of cats. Ended up having a nice fish fry that weekend.

I have one hanging in my barn that I got from them a few years back.

I haven't priced any recently but do know it depends on the size. A lot of difference in price as you add to size of rings.
