This is your chance for what you would like to see Demps do to turn the Hornets into a team that could make it to the 2nd or 3rd round (WCF) of the playoffs.

Go!

Rules:

Trades must be relatively realistic. Everyone has a different opinion of this, but don't have them trading Boki Nachbar and Speedy Claxton for Dwight Howard.

FA signings must fit into the CURRENT or LIKELY salary situation / CBA. If you are using a new model for a CBA, please let us know what it is.

I'd like to see some ideas. Frankly, I'm at a loss as to what Demps can do this offseason. While I think we are in better shape in a lot of ways than last year, we might have even less trade assets.

So sorry I didn't post my ideas, but I'd like to see what you guys have to say.

that martell webster + a 1st round pick idea in the other thread was a pretty damn good start

Turns out Dwight Howard really does want out of Orlando, and CP3 convinces him to play here...

1. Oak, West, and 2 1st rounders for DH12

2/3. Sign Michael Redd, Carl Landry, Willie Green

CP3/Jack
Redd/Green
Ariza/QPon
Landry/PE Jr.
Dwight/Gray

Yeah we're weak at the 4 but Redd is a dead-eye shooter and Dwight alone will improve our offensice rebounding considerably.

May not be championship caliber but deep playoff contender? I think so

Personally, I consider any trade bringing Dwight here is the very definition of unrealistic.

But that's me. Thanks for the contributions.

Someone more educated in the salary rules critique this scenario...

1. Trade Ariza for Iguodala
- throw in a draft pick or trade exception (not exactly sure how that works)

2. Free Agency
- Sign Wilson Chandler to replace Ariza

3. Address Current Contracts:
- Extend CP3 and West
- Re-sign Belinelli and Green as backup SG
- Re-sign Gray to back up Okafor
- Re-sign Landry to back up West, and to start the season
(with Beli, Green, Landry, and Gray, are they expected to make about the same on their next contract? I figured WG would be less than his $4/yr, but the others would want a slight increase?)

CP3/Jack
Iguodala/Belinelli/Green
Chandler/Pondexter
West/Landry
Okafor/Gray

------------------------------------------
Scenario 2:

1. Free Agency:
-Sign Nick Young as a FA
-Sign Dalembert as a backup C
2. Send Ariza to shooting school
3. Address current contracts
- Extend CP3 and West
- Re-sign Belinelli and Landry

CP3/Jack
Nick Young/Belinelli
Ariza/Pondexter
West/Landry
Okafor/Dalembert

----------------------------------------------
Scenario 3 (Blow the team up edition)

1. Three way trade btw NO, Indiana, and Charlotte

Hornets get - DJ Augustin, Danny Granger, Tyrus Thomas (a little homerism in this one ), Charlotte's #9 pick
Hornets lose - Paul, West
- Why the Hornets do it? Paul is likely gone if we're not close to being a contender. West has a player option. NO is on the verge of losing the team if attendence doesn't increase. Bringing in local guys will help. This would also be a young, fun team to watch.

Bobcats get - Chris Paul
Bobcats lose - Augustin, Thomas
-Why the Bobcats do it? Get the best PG in basketball and something they've lacked since they joined the NBA, a true star for MJ to build his team around

Pacers get - David West
Pacers lose - Danny Granger
-Why the Pacers do it? Granger is more expendable with Paul George tearing it up in the latter half of the season. They can play them both on the court but both are true SFs, not SGs. They can keep West since they are lacking at PF, or they can let him expire and go after a PF or SG in FA.

2. Free Agency:
-A lot of youth, so go after a veteran SG. Redd or TMac, whoever is healthiest.
-Next option would be Richardson

3. Address current contracts;
- Re-sign Belinelli and Green cheap (incentive-based contracts)
- Re-sign Landry as your starting PF (our front court would lack size and length, but that is exactly what Thomas and Gray are)
- Re-sign Gray as a back up to Okafor

DJ Augustin/Jack
Redd (or TMac)/Belinelli/Green
Granger/Pondexter
Landry/Thomas
Okafor/Gray

Disclaimer: I'm not a GM, and I'd be lying if I said I understood the salary cap, trade exceptions, MLEs, and all the other stuff. Just trying to kill some time at work.

The team really wasn't that far away this year. If West is healthy you need a more reliable SG a backup SF and that's about it.

Martell Webster is one of the few if not the only players that could be on the dump market that would actually be productive for the Hornets. If you take him on backup SF is solved.

After that you probably wouldn't have enough money to go after JRich or keep Beli and sign a guy, but you would have enough money to choose between Beli, JR Smith, and Nick Young.

CP3/Jack
Young/Jack/Green
Ariza/Webster/QPon
West/Landry
Okafor/Gray

For the record I'd keep Beli over Green but Green will be cheaper and he's Monty's boy so I'm trying to be realistic. Also, if we got #20 for picking up Webster that'd be great but I don't expect a rookie, even a 1st rounder, to have much impact on a defense first playoff team. In the event that Webster wasn't available you could still pick up a similar player for that same $5 million. Maybe someone like Pietrus

I dont know how realistic this would be but

Step 1
Hornets Get - Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry, Luis Scola, Hasheem Thabeet

Rockets Get - Chris Paul, Okafor, Next years 1st draft pick, this years 2nd

Step 2

West picks up his option
Hornets Get - Andray Blatche, Javale McGee
Wizards Get - David West, Aaron Gray

Step 3

Chouest buys team
Buy first round pick and draft Marshon Brooks

PG Lowry, Jack
SG Martin, Brooks
Sf Ariza, Q-pon
PF Scola, Blatche
C McGee, Blatche, Thabeet

So we get the Rockets starting lineup from two seasons ago?(minus McGee)

That deal sounds terrible...

Move 1: Paul for Westbrook

Move 2: Trade to acquire Howard

Move 3: Resign the rest of the team

Hornets Bball, your trades are terrible.

Cajunfootball, no way Howard wants to come here if CP isn't here.

If we blow up the team, the CP/West for Augustin/Granger/Tyrus would be OK, definitely a fun team to watch.

Honestly, I don't know what moves we could make to significantly improve the team. If West were healthy this playoffs, we actually have a shot at upsetting the Lakers and seeing more favorable matchups.

Howard would prefer a shoot first guy to the best alley oop distributor of all time?

Maybe a D-League championship.

Iggy rumors are heating up. They are talking about swapping him for Kaman. Wonder if we can get involved in talks with Philly?

So Paul giving Howard 40PPG while getting 10 isn't going to make them that much better.

Westbrook getting 30 and Howard still getting his 20~30 would though.

For what? Okafor is the most likely trade piece and with his contract they may not want him and with what's available in FA at center, we may not want to give him up. As bad as Okafor's contract is, it still would be pretty hard for the Hornets to replace him.

They must really want his expiring. Cuz he hasn't been healthy in a while.

Okafor is better than Kaman right now.
