What do you guys consider too rough to fish offshore? 3ft.to 5ft. Seas? Taking my kid on a trip this weekend and want to know what you guys think is a go or no go.

Don't really have a set limit, we just play it by ear, we've got as far out as 30 miles and said frick this let's just go in and boil crawfish.

But yours is a little more tricky on a charter, if I were taking kids I wouldnt go out past 4's

That's kinda what I'm thinking. I don't wanna take him and have him puking and miserable on his first trip.

3-5s should be OK in that boat, IMO. Everyone is different as far as motion sickness, though. I wouldn't worry too much about it being dangerous if that's what you're asking.

First time offshore in 3-5's might be tricky, but then again, he could be fine it's more a mental thing, I don't get sea sick when I'm drunk because I am not thinking about it

I think as far as safety we'll be fine. Just don't want him getting burned on his first trip. Have to pump him full of dramamine just for good measure!

Dramamine might put him to sleep the entire trip

Moms might frown on letting him get drunk. Now pops on the other hand...well I'm thinking I'm gonna be just fine! Although I have been seasick a time or two and it is pure hell. I learned to keep eyes focused on the horizon and that helps a lot.

Fact. If I take a dramamine, I normally take it w/ a redbull.

He is 12. Not enough dramamine in wal mart to put him to sleep! This kid is wide open when it comes to hunting and fishing!

Y'all have a good time, getting a kid into fishing at a young age is one of the best things in life you can do for him

If there is a long wave period in between the waves, then it should be no problem. We used to fish out of my dad's 21ft deep V Cape Horn in 3-5 so your 36ft Contender should be able to handle 3-5

If he gets on a 100lb YF and they strap the pole to him you better make damn sure you hold onto him as well, mom isn't gunna be happy when he tells her about you letting him go overboard

I think I will let him try out on a snapper first. Then see if he thinks he wants to move up to the big leagues!
