LSU researcher finds sick snapper

quote:

“There are so many snapper out there now that it’s like a herd of cattle on every reef, and they have a high site fidelity, which means they don’t wander. So you’ve got this high density of animals, so if one gets sick and gets a parasite or some kind of disease, it spreads rather easily,” said Dr. Crozier.

Why do we hear the opposite of this when they make the regs each season. I have been hearing about the sick snapper for a few months on fishing boards. I am glad that someone is finally looking into it.

they are taking over the rig, like he said.

you see thousands on every rig dive and they are "endangered"

The "authorities" have been beyond off on the snapper situation for a while. Their off based decision making has cost a lot of people a lot of money and a lot of areas a lot of revenue, I can't understand what they gain from fabricating numbers and imposing such ridiculous regulations.

ETA: I just know that as long as you dont frick with them, they wont frick with you. And if one is charging you, toss your fish to the side, thats all he wants

Black tips are rather plentiful. I think that might have been what those were, hard to tell for sure.

I know one of the scientists at LSU who told me about this a couple weeks ago. The tested Snapper were from points far east of La. waters. Some have lesions/sores that are readily visible. This is a common occurrence however and is prolly a Virus.

Just throw em back if you catch one.........

Because they don't want us to fish PERIOD

The government continues to take freedoms away just a little bit at a time and next thing you know we will allowed one weekend a year to catch one fish per boat.

It's getting out of hand.

At one of the rigs, we couldn't get the bait down fast enough for grouper before we had 3 snapper on the hooks. After 4 drops and 3 fish each drop, we decided to frick it and move to the next rig
