Anyone else think that not playing in Hoover could set up our pitching rotation quite nicely assuming we get in a regional?

For discussions sake, lets assume we get sent to Austin.

Throw McCune GM 1.
If win, Gausman against UT in GM 2, or Eades vs. the 4 seed if we lose GM 1.
GM 3 throw Eades or Gausman (whichever didn't throw GM 2.
Hopefully have Alsup left for GM 4 if necessary.

Any thoughts?

I think we throw our best in game one.

McCune game 1, Gausman game 2 or elimination game.

But I'm not sure that not playing in Hoover helps. Even if we'd play Sunday there would still be 4 days rest for everyone.

Generally I would agree, but I think Gausman and McCune are kind of 1 and 1a. Obviously Gausman is pitching better lately, which is why I think we may want him in GM 2 against the 1 seed. Yes, I know you have to win game 1 before you worry about game 2, but you have to be able to beat the 1 seed at some point to get to the Super.

I agree with you about both of them.

I agree the experience would be a good thing, but I like having more than 4 days rest.

If the bats stay alive and we can get some descent pitching out of the bullpen...we could make it interesting.

I'd throw Gausman in game 1. He is our best right now.

This is very reasonable logic. But, given that we will be the underdog in game 1, I'm throwing my best and hoping that my #2 (or 1a) can beat the #1 seed's #2. That will be a pretty even matchup.

If I lose game 1, I'm saving McCune for game 3.

What if we're the 4 seed?

I think the game 1 starter depends on the matchup. As for possible game 4 starter, it would likely be Jones. Alsup will be needed out of the bullpen before then.

Yes, and finished on a positive note after getting hit pretty hard in the 4th and 5th.

The only problem I see with this is I would assume the 1 seed wouldn't throw their #1 against the 4 seed. I would assume their #1 would be waiting for us in Game 2.

Someone else mentioned we shouldn't waste Gausman against Jungman, but I don't know that you just want to roll over and conceed the lose. Although, I can kinda see his point that you save your best for the next one, if there is a next one.

Wow this is a great rotation! How long did it take you to come up with the matchups? If we win the regional what would your rotation be for the super regional?

Same as PM's for the last few weeks. Gausman, McCune, Eades. Super seems to be a no-brainer to me, but there is more strategy to consider in a Regional.

I realize I didn't really reinvent the wheel on this, but I think it is a legitimate question to ask whether you'd throw Gausman or McCune first which is essentially what I'm asking.
