A section of the project (sheet pile) has a failed. And the water is still days away. Skillful execution.

Didn't work in 73, and aint gonna work now. Recycling failed ideas = genius.

A single sheet of sheet pile failed on the Bayou Chene project. T Baker Smith is working on remediation of the single sheet to repair or replace. This does not equate to totally system failure. Water elevation pass the Bayou Chene project is approximately 18-24” lower than before the project structure. Any additional questions please contact St. Mary Levee District office at 985-330-5500.

Press release from St Mary Levee District. One section of sheet pile collapsed, engineering firm T Booker Smith going to repair or replace.

If it fails under the conditions before the water arrives...

Thanks.

I wonder what they mean by failed?

Does the sheet have a hole in it? Was it not driven deep enough or not locked into the next sheet?

Just seems odd for a single sheet to fail.

It is a span of about 10' of the 1000' long sheet pile wall at the deepest part of the bayou. It did not fail because of the conditions. It just needs to be driven deeper. This design is completely different from the 1973 barge so stop comparing it to that. Everything else is holding up nicely.

Breric,
That's what I heard too. It wasn't a very big deal and should be fixed in no time. All I know is on one side of the sheet pile the water is 18 inches higher so the wall is doing it's job. I live in Oak Harbor and am very thankful for it.

I went out there yesterday and BREric is correct. Just need to come back with a 75 or 100 foot piece to drill it in deeper.

Don't take what I said as me hoping for the worst. I work in the basin, out of belle river. (usually launch from Adams or BR, and they are swamped at the moment). It frustration that 30+ years later the best we got is the same failed plan.

They are trying to put this job together in 5 days...something like this takes weeks if not months to plan...I am very familiar with what failed and its a Bush League mistake.....this is money grab and a pub stunt.......

The contractor didnt lock the sheet piles together like he was supposed to....there will be more failures once the water get there.

Who was the contractor? I would think that with mcdermot being right there that they could put something decent together. Do you have pics of the current setup?

But again this is not the same plan. A lot more is going into this plan other than just a barge. And as the article states there is 18"-24" difference in water elevation on each side of the barge so far. Now I know that number will decrease some as the condition worses but you can't say the water is just going around and not having any effects.

Makes the 73 project look like the effin Hoover dam. It is immensely unfair to hinge peoples hopes on something like this if those pictures are accurate. Dam near criminal, certainly unethical, and truly a publicity stunt.
