My parents live out there and we can't find any reliable information for flood projections in the backwater area. From what I have heard, the water was a foot from the top of the levee in the 1973 flood. Has anyone heard any information about this area?

If you can't find really good info that the area will NOT flood I would think about getting them out. Take them on a "drive" to see what's going on. Maybe that will convince them to visit for a few days.

Search for positive or negative news but don't wait forever to decide.

We went ride the whole 451 loop today. Basically from what i can see, if your on the inside of the levees, you are toast... outside the levees, you should be fine...

LINK

highway 451 might be fine for now. remember, that levee is made so short for a reason. i water gets high enough it is made to over top and fill in pomme de terre. after that, the levee along old highway will be blown if needed.

i passed behind the levee on friday and bayou des glaises was almost at it's banks in hamburg. and it has come out of it's banks close to simmesport. which caused the closure of the big bend/simmesport cutoff road.

Everything i saw today, it was still within its levees. I did see a ton of water coming from the fields in the backs of the houses though... Its creeping up...

Thanks for the info. I can't exactly call my parents and ask them because they do not stay there all the time. The last they saw, (last week) Spring Bayou area was completely dry. We had 10 feet of water in our home in St. Bernard Parish for Katrina and are hoping the area is spared.

I havent seen anything that says how much water can be expected in the Spring Bayou area.

the thing about old river is people are going to have to leave before the water even comes close to getting into homes because the road will go under water at two places. water only needs to come up i'd say around 5 feet to go over the road where it turns from gravels into pavement past the landing. cleco will probably cut the power sometime later this week right before that happens. water hasn't come up much if at all over night but that could change by tonight.

Should be. The crest at the Black river at Acme has be dropped from 53 to 48, so that is good news for those folks.

I would love for the system to get water without people being damaged. The vegetation is out of control.
