but I am going to ask anyways. When they open Morganza, and all that water starts to run south, is there anyway that the I-10 basin bridge would be affected?

From what Ive heard the current won't be strong enough to cause an issue, however the water line is expected to be about 5ft from the bottom of the bridge.

Most knowledgeable people I have talked to or read do not think so. The 190 "Four Mile" bridge is probably at greater risk, but it survived in '73.

Check on road closures with LSP before leaving Sunday. No one knows for sure what's going to be going on by Sunday because the situation is very fluid.

I don't think so. I drove the bridge yesterday. They have put new portable sign trailers on both ends, but I am told that is to display "No Stopping" signs.

There is construction underway on the Four Mile Bridge, mostly on the damaged side rails. I am sure they have looked it over recently.

What I have heard is that there will be no real lateral force on the Four Mile. I also think -- but am not sure -- that the old 190 north of the bridge, which was built mostly on levees, will shield the Four Mile from any significant current. I cannot imagine it going under water. If it does, you will need an Ark anywhere south of Alexandria.

FWIW, I plan to drive it even after the Morganza opens.

I'm driving to Mandeville from Orange Texas on Sunday.

Will I be able to get over the basin bridge?

If you're driving one of those DUKW vehicles, no problem. Otherwise, who knows?

Seriously, you should be OK across the Basin Bridge.
