They are hesitating on opening the Morganza and giving all these doomsday flood projections to justify the opening, or are they scared shitless that the morganza will fail and change the path of the river forever!!!!!

I think to scare the public and get everyone to start screaming for them to open morganza essentially saying f all the people west of BR.

For ex: Hurry up and open that bitch!

If they were not informing the public everyone would be crying foul as well.

They can't win for losing.

They have to give the farmers time to get their equipment out of the spillway. They also would like to give everyone the maximum amount of time to gtfo

Should they run test on the Morganza every few years for instatances like now. With all the technology they can surely find out something.

I think if you look at the 7AM Project Flood Map issued by the Corps today, it is pretty simple. They are sticking strictly to the book on this one only doing thing at the trigger points.

It shows Red River at just over 1.4 Million CFS this morning and the trigger for Morganza is Red River being at 1.5 million.

But I am concerned that they are sticking to the guidelines even though the water in BR is so high and the New Orleans threshold has already hit the 1.25 Million ceiling.

In case something happens, they can fall back on their strict interpretation of their guidelines. It is a cause for concern.

ETA - They do perform routine testing and maintenance on the facility. But there has never been this much water to run anything in these conditions.
