Why is dribbling even required in the NBA now?

on LB's last dunk he shouldn't have even pretended to dribble. just run with it. Everyone gets 4 steps routinely. Bball used to have rules but other than shot clock and flagrants, there's not much left.

traveling hasn't been called "by the book" since the fricking 70s (and possibly earlier)

Well they did call traveling on both Pierce and Baby last night. Even though it was pretty clear neither traveled.

I guess the refs were like "frick it the game is over" after he stole the ball

They don't call palming or traveling like they should these days. It's a joke what some of these players get away with. Basketball shouldn't just be about driving to the rim and drawing a foul call every time.

The NBA is on a quota system. You can call traveling up to 3 times in a game. If you call it 3 times in the first quarter, the refs are done for the game, so they mete them out judiciously.

Its amazing how many actual travels occur in a game. Oh well doesn't make the game less entertaining

D0ll, actually both traveled. Big Baby took 3 steps before shooting, Pierce picked up his foot and completely moved it to another spot on the floor. Both of those are traveling. I don't know why they were called because traveling happens on most plays, but both of those guys clearly traveled.

Baby may have traveled. Pierce didn't travel. Reggie Miller(who hadn't questioned any call all series) said himself neither were travels.

They called Lebron on a travel last night too, they had panned out for a coach interview so it mostly went unnoticed.
