Arrested Development question

I just finished watching the entire series for the first time. It is easily one of the funniest tv shows I've ever seen. I'm actually kind of embarrassed that it took me so long to finally watch it. So my question is this. When did they get word that the show was gonna be cancelled?
It seemed to me that the last 3 or 4 episodes were rushed in the sense that it only took Michael that short of time to find out that George Sr was innocent. It seemed to me that I could have skipped the first 2 1/2 seasons (and missed all of the hilarity in the process) to get the whole story. Also the whole George Michael/ Maeby resolution was kind of weak. And I would have loved to have seen the entire family mock Michael with their chicken dances at the same time.
Opinions?

Oh yeah, SPOILERS to anyone who is more of a caveman than I am.

From my understanding, the show was never really on solid ground.

I only started watching after it was cancelled, but they definitely started weaving cancellation jokes into the show about midway into the third season. I'd imagine FOX did the same shite they always do, switching times randomly and doing a terrible job of marketing the show.

It doesn't help AD's case that it's a difficult show to pick up on from a single episode. Too many plotlines that run multiple episodes or the entire run. You only get an appreciation for the show once you've seen several episodes and that's asking too much of a lot of people.

I just hope that the movie becomes a reality before the cast gets too damn old to do it. I can't remember what show it was, but I saw the girl that played Maeby and she looks WAY different and not in a good way...

I just recently watched it too and loved it alot. I agree with you but I never watched the show for the plot, I mostly just watched because I thought it was

the plot was just why they were doing the funny stuff not why I watched personally

I agree they definitely sped up the plotline season 3 when they knew they were cancelled for good. Before that, the threat was there, it just wasn't as "real." I loved the show, but I need to watch the last half of season 3 again because I was hammered laughing my arse off watching it in one afternoon but yet can't remember what the hell happened.

Yeah, the jokes are the big seller, for sure. David Cross and Will Arnett alone do a great job of carrying this show, but the whole cast delivers for the most part. I got tired of Michael Cera before I ever saw the show, so that may have affected my opinion of George Michael, but solid cast all around...

I guess what I was really getting at is that you learn the mannerisms of each character and how they react with one another. Also, occasionally a joke will reference something that happened several episodes back. That might throw a first timer if they start halfway through a season.

I dunno, maybe I'm underestimating the average TV viewer, but I have a feeling that I'm not.

I definitely get your point here. I guess it was about the 3rd or 4th episode of the first season, Buster was dogging the shite out of his mother to the other siblings and I was crying I was laughing so hard. My wife came in from the other room to see what was so funny. So I got her to sit and watch the next episode with me. She didn't laugh once, and I think I turned her off to the whole show. Which sucks because we find a lot of the same stuff funny.

Save our Bluths episode.

Fox ended up airing 2 a night on Friday night for 2 or 3 weeks until the show was over.

It was like watching an animal bleed out. Really sad. Really really sad.

Glad you enjoyed it!
