Deep sea fishing - ft lauderdale today

Today was the last day of our ft lauderdale vacation. My wife caught a 6.5 ft sailfish and my father in law got a 9 ft hammerhead! We also got some black fin tuna and a mahi that the local resaurant grilled up when we got back to the dock! May not be impressive to everyone on this board but I'm pretty stoked and extremely proud of my wife so I figured this was the best place to ce and brag about it (since most of my facebook friends probably don't know what I'm talking about).

So you got skunked by the wife? Where exactly do you have to go to turn in your ManCard?

Any pics of the 9ft hammerhead? That sounds huge.

If you really want to get on sailfish, head down to east coast of Fla. Do this in the fall thru the next spring. Most good days one can catch as many as 25 sails in a day. I know one boat that taged 50 sails in one day. A centerconsole boat charter cost around $500 a day for up to 4 people. If you make a few days fishing with the same boat, that price drops big time. Bigger boats cost well over $1200 a day. These days are 10-12 hours long.

I went fishing out of ft lauderdale a few years back... Well we caught a nice 50 pd golden amberjack. Having caught plenty of Ambers before and as this was the only non trash fish we caught, I thought atleast we would have something to grill up.. The charter guys looked at us funny and informed us that the Amberjack caught there always had worms and nobody dared eat them much less cut them open.. Sure enough he cut that fricker up and it was loaded with worms..
What I wonder now is if this was a short term problem or common knowledge down there?
