Is $1900 for a 1 day trip the norm? That's the quote I just got. That's $57,000 a month. I can't believe that's accurate.

You think any charter service is booked EVERY day?

I think you are looking at it wrong. If you purchased the smallest boat rigged out that you could safely fish the gulf,I think you are coming out ahead. This charter spent years learning fishing patterns and what works. That has to be worth something.
Things you don`t have to do.

Buy boat and rig.
Maintenance.
Fuel for boat.
fuel for truck,to pull boat.
Ice/bait.
Storage/cleaning of boat, every time you use it.
On & on & on.
Tip well my friend.

Yeah, I can see it. I should take into consideration the cost of fuel and distance of the boat ride as well as their expertise.

Usually 18-1900 for 4-6 people including fuel food and drinks is par

I agree with chartering a trout boat, cheaper and more action

what area do you want to fish from? certain captains are more kid friendly than others, also how are the kids?? going rate for a day trip depends on who you fish with and what you will be fishing for (bluewater vs rig fishing), but usually $1,200 - 1,400 plus fuel and some guys charge by the pound for fish cleaning (usually optional, but recommended). Im not sure i know of anyone who includes fuel these days in the cost of a trip. Daryl Carpenter used to run a trip for $1200 (fuel included) where he would run to platforms within 30 miles of Grand Isle for mangroves, red snapper and cobia. Might want to give him a call and see if that still holds true. I've fished with a handful of guides from Cocodrie to Venice and can offer you a few names that you might want to check-out/avoid.
