anyone heard of this kid? LINK

He's the 7th kid mentioned.

Four-sport star from Baldwin

Ryan Antoine, West Mary High School coach, is a little confused because he doesn't understand why Jerald Hawkins (Baldwin, La./West Mary School) isn't garnering more recruiting attention. The 6-7, 285-pounder is a four-sport star and a big, athletic offensive line prospect.

"Yes, he's flying under the radar," Antoine said. "Jerald only has solid offers from Pitt and Tulane.

Texas A&M, LSU, Mississippi State, Purdue, Arkansas, Auburn, and SMU are sending letters and showing interest but no one else has pulled the trigger.

They all say they are going to offer but no one else has. I don't know what is holding these teams back. This kid is a diamond in rough."

Hawkins, who plays defensive end, recorded 61 tackles, nine sacks and 18 tackles for a loss last year.

He also plays basketball, as well as pitches and plays first base for his high school baseball team. This weekend, he will also compete for the state championship in the shot put.

"Jerald wants to play everything," Antoine said. "He's a competitor and a super athlete. He could be a defensive end in the 3-4 or an offensive tackle. In my honest opinion, I think he's an offensive tackle. Whoever gets him will mold him into whatever they want him to be."

Antoine believes the lack of exposure could be because Baldwin, La., is such a small town.

"We are in between Morgan City and Lafayette and we are a small country town, a small community. This is a very unique situation but we have a lot of talent that just needs some exposure," he said.

Kid must be raw. Can't teach 6'7" and 285 lbs.

I have heard baseball scouts talking about Chuck Finley and a couple of other tall left-handers.

They said the ball looked like it was coming from first base.

We should offer if we can't hit on our bigger OL targets. Guy could be a nice project ala Josh Williford or Jonah Austin. Like those guys, you don't teach that kind of size.

Henagrift was talking about him on Moscona's show yesterday along with Edinburgh.

Apparently, LSU is recruiting Edinburgh like they did Jonah Austin. Hawkins will be evaluated as well at camps this summer and during fall.

He and Pomansky indicated this year's class in LA is about a C compared to last years. Landon Collins is #1 player in state but had he come out last year he would have been about #6

What classification does he play in? Is that 2A or something? And has he been to any camps or anything?

Baldwin is West St. Mary HS, which I believe is 3A.

If you have depth at OL he would be great to take on if you have an extra spot in your class.

A&M did this a couple years ago with a kid named Jarvis Harrison. Sherman claims he's an easy NFL draftee in another couple years.

Sadly, I don't think A&M will have room to offer this kid

Scout has noticed him: LINK

quote:

"Texas A&M offered me Friday," said Jerald Hawkins, the junior from West Saint Mary HS (Baldwin, La.). "They called my coach (Ryan Antoine) and told him they were offering me. I'm being recruited by Coach (Terrell) Williams and Coach (Jim) Turner.

"I also have offers from Pittsburgh, Tulane, and Nicholls State. Texas A&M and Pitt are my leaders. I like everything about Texas A&M. I went to their spring game and really enjoyed it. I like their defense."

What does Hawkins like about Pitt?

"Their recruiter, Coach (Michael) Norvell, is a cool dude," he said. "I like their offense. I would fit in well at Pitt as an offensive linemen. I'm being recruited on both sides of the football. It just depends on each school. A&M is mainly looking at me as a defensive end."

Hawkins is listed anywhere from 6-foot-5 to 6-foot-7 (and 275 pounds to 295 pounds). Just how big is he?

"I'm 6-foot-6," he said. "I weigh 280 pounds, and I can run a 4.87 in the 40-yard dash."

the track info:
quote:

Yesterday, Hawkins put his athleticism on display at the Class 3A state track meet, which was held on the LSU campus. "It felt good to win the shot put," he said. "There was good competition. I never underestimate the competition. I set a PR yesterday by throwing 52-9 1/2."

and the LSU football questions:
quote:

Speaking of LSU, where do the Tigers stand in terms of Hawkins' recruitment? "They're starting to pick up their noise now," said Hawkins. "They're sending me more letters. They want me to come to their summer camp. Coach Frank Wilson is recruiting me for LSU."

I can definitely see him as a beast 3-4 DE. Kid is pretty athletic. His initial impact looks very powerful on both sides of the ball. Looks more natural on the D-line.

Just saw a tweet that this kid committed to A&M today. Maybe we are taking 40 kids this year?

Geesh. I hope we save room for some of our other big offers
