40 yard dash time?

What is a relatively competitive/impressive time? Is a 4.6 decent?

You need to get WAY more specific. If a random 20 something dude can run a 4.6 it is VERY impressive, if it is a NFL CB not so much.

A hand-timed 4.6? Very good
An electronic-timed 4.6? Elite

It is still faster than 95% of D1 athletes.

Yes. A 4.6 laser timed 40 is VERY impressive. Steven Ridley ran a 4.7. Terrance tolliver ran a 4.58 i believe. The avg college player runs in the 4.5 - 4.7 range so yes.

Maybe not elite for athletes, but elite for the population as a whole, if that makes sense

re: 40 yard dash time?

I know Trindon ran a a 4.2ish in the 40. I was JW what an average WR or RB ran it in. The last time I ran a timed 40 was back in middle school, several years ago. I have not run a timed one since. I was doing some sprint workouts recently at the Tad Gormley track with a Santa Monica alum trying to move onto the Canadian league and he ran somewhere around a 4.5ish and he was barely beating me. It was only my first week of track work outs too, so I have a lot of work before I get back into great track shape. Just run track sprints for fun btw, not getting ready for anything.

A 4.6 would have probably made you the fastest person at your high school.

I watched a guy I went to high school run a 4.20 in front of southern track coaches. I also watched him quit school for a promising career at mcdonalds

Its decent but it depends on the situation. I ran a 4.6 in highschool and the only receiver I ever went up against that was faster than me was Mike Wallace.
