Pectus' pictures from 2008:
I took these pictures standing at the flag pole on the levee (straight past the LSU Vet school)
VIDEO of the river at flood stage
These were taken at the peak flood level, about the same time those levees in the norther plain states were breached and flooded homes Iowa, I think.
Here's what it's supposed to look like (taken this March, 2011):

Time to bust out the surf boards.

We'll be alright in South Louisiana.

Nothing like a little backyard patio fishing.

I think I'll be alright here in Colorado.

I'm far enough West of it but have a sister who lives in BR.

Geauxtiga, you're just FULL of good news tonight...

Our spillways will take care of it

Are their levees really not high enough. I've never seen the level in BR very high. Maybe once or twice it made it above the natural levee. But never more than a foot up to the manmade ones

Are you thinking that BR is going to flood?
Because it's not...

Because of the river topping the levy, no BR will not flood, but a breach in the levy and good bye BR, with the river that high the levy is at it's weakest and the river at it's wildest, have an oil tanker loose control and plow into the levy and we got problems

I'm fairly certain that most of BR is in no danger of flooding - only the areas closest to the river are in danger of flooding from the Mississippi.
Also, if you're thinking that the sort of levee breaches that occurred in New Orleans could happen here...well..they likely won't. The levee structure along the river is vastly different than the breached floodwalls you saw in New Orleans.

Well, duh...
Can that happen, sure. But the likelihood of that happening is remote. I'd have a nice view of the river from my house, though...

I think he is thinking more along the lines of the type of breach that occurred in 1927.

I'd be more concerned about the Old River Control structure. Failure there and a lot of Water down the Atchafalaya will frick some stuff up

I don't think they're planning on blowing up the BR levee.

I do agree with this. That place scares me.

Iirc tiger stadium at the field is higher than the anticipated river height.
