Have you ever had to use your pistol to deter a human threat?

This past xmas eve we were heading back to the house from a relatives house about 30 minutes away, one of my kids had to use the bathroom and we were still a good 15 minutes away, but everything was closed as it was 11pm on Christmas eve. We stopped off the interstate in a well lit fast food restaurant. The wife was driving so she stayed in the car with the other kid, while I got the other guy out to go in the grassy area next to the parking lot. a small car creeps from behind the restaurant and I can see at least 2 people in the front seat, but it looked like they were moving really slow. seeing this I put myself between my kid and the car which came to a stop about 15 feet to my back and tucked my shirt behind my pistol(not a judge). I hear a car door open and after what feels like 20 seconds but is probably only 3 I turn around, while my kid is still peeing to look at the car, and a guy has gotten out of the back seat and is standing on the side of the car looking in my direction. his eyes wonder down to my belt, he sees my pistol, his eyes get really big and he jumps in the car and they take off. It turned my wife from a not too crazy about guns liberal to a gun toting conservative almost over night. It was pretty crazy, and I would have drawn my gun if he would have come any closer. It was pretty crazy, but at least the kids and wife were unharmed.

right after katrina I was coming down st. claude with a truck load of slvaged things from my house in chalmette. I had to stop for something and some guys ran up to the truck to try and grab things out of the back. I had my dads 44mag and I pointed it out the window. Thats all it took. the scattered.

Not a pistol but after a dove hunt one evening a guy that we knew flew past us in his truck, pulled in front to block us, hopped out with nun chucks, yelling, swinging, and screaming accused us of breaking his radio antena off his truck. When he made it to our window, we told him it was not us and hit the slides on our 12 gauges. He said OK and walked off in a hurry.

I almost shot a paramedic trying to break into my house because he had the wrong address.

Another time some arse clown was riding our arse flashin lights and swrving. All this in a neighbor hood. Knew who he was. He speeds all the time in his clunkers after he fixes them. Anyhow, he passed us with half his car in someones yard and stops in front of us. He gets out with a stick hollerin and screamin. Grabbed the ole 12ga crack barrel and stepped out slamming the breach shut. He also turned quickly and left.
Both times nothing was said on our end, and we went on as nothing happened.

Funny how a threat to a womans kid can turn them into a whole new creature. Hats off to you for being prepared. You sir are a good dad.

No shite. All I know is I saw a guy in dark clothing wearing gloves carrying a bag attempting to gain entry to my residence. Got my light in his eyes before he saw me, realized what was going on, and dropped my pistol behind my leg before he saw it.

Lucky for him you were able to keep your sense about you and didn't just start blindly shooting. Hell, lucky for everybody involved. Must have had your adrenaline pumping pretty good after that. I wouldn't have been able to go back to sleep that night.

At this point in my life I have not ever had to pull a firearm to protect my family, myself or my property. But if that day should ever come I will be able to try and protect myself and family.
I think my desire to be prepared for such things stems from our house being broken into when I was kid, and all our stuff was stolen or destroyed. Its hard to describe the violated feeling that this has left me and I guess I have swore to try and prevent something or someone from making me feel this way again.
