Let me take out the SUNSHINE and add a little REALITY:

Steak ‘n Shake, the moderately successful Midwestern chain with minimal brand awareness and zero brand loyalty outside it's core area for its hamburgers and shakes, has contractually obligated it's sucker franchisee to open seven restaurants in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, which would be suicidal for the aforementioned franchisee. Bob Franke, senior vice president of franchise development for Steak ‘n Shake, who has ZERO skin in the game, says an agreement has been reached with a local franchise group to build a single location, operate it for one year, deplete his life savings and return his home to the bank. This is part of an myopic Utopian push by Steak ‘n Shake to open 1,000 new restaurants in the next couple of years, or fourteen, whichever comes first. Franke says the local franchisees are eyeing stand-alone locations with exorbanant build-out costs and restaurants inside strip shopping centers where they can lose their asses much faster. Indianapolis-based Steak ‘n Shake has nearly 500 restaurants but none in Louisiana, because no sucker has yet to take the bait. Franke says the plan is to open the chain’s first Louisiana restaurant by the fall if the franchisee does not run fleeing for his life.

They built one in Katy ,TX and the service is horrible & the food is horrible(we got sick both times we ate there).

I Pray to god one day I will see a White Castle here in Texas. I miss those.

I'm surprised there's so much love for Steak n' Shake here. Maybe the ones I've been to in ATL just are weak locations but I found the burgers and fries pretty mediocre. Shakes are pretty good though.

I just find it a step up from McDs, BK, Wendys and the like. Not a gourmet burger by any standard, but worth throwing a few bucks at every now and then. I like having more options myself. To each his own.

I'm still surprised the Mall never found something to go into the Red Robin space.

Actually, I'm really surprised it didn't last there.

It's not too bad. Had it in Nashville. I remember the prices as being pretty cheap

do you NOT understand the reality that banks refuse to loan money to local restaurant concepts because of the horrific risk they pose ? steak 'n' shake will be another sales tax collecting entity for the state and parish, as well as an employer .. Jesus, please join reality ..

Do you not realize what absolute HORSE shite that PR crap is ?
They plan on opening seven in south Louisiana in the next few years, and 993 in the other states right ?
Why didn't they just say "a bazillion" ?
I detest the way this game is played, the way The Daily Report spews this endless propaganda and the way so many mindless robots scoop this shite up.
Nothing against Steak and Shake, just this Daily Report silliness, that gets picked up on the wires and creates the ILLUSION that franchises create to mesmerize other franchisees.
I just know how this game is played....
