Nobody ever answered: who verifies that a presidential candidate is qualified?

Birther or no birther, I legitimately just want the answer to this question: who (or what entity) specifically is charged with verifying that a presidential candidate meets the constitutionally-proscribed criteria for being president?

re: Nobody ever answered: who verifies that a presidential candidate is qualified?

I believe that is left up to the states and their qualifications to get on the ballot.

IE: The states are the final authority on if a candidate can be on their ballot. Not all qualified candidates can get on the ballot on all states.

ETA2: So if you're asking me if the process to get on a ballot is politicized, yes I'ma say it's politicized.

So the states confirm the federal regs?

The State certifies the ballot.

generally the party also certifies their candidate as being ABLE to run during the convention. As they did with Obama. But left out the clause where he was "eligible under the articles in the Constitution" part.

had a post on it...hold on.

Yes. that's why Arizona passed the bill to require the long form BC.

Also, I believe that prior to Obama, confirming all of the federal reqs for the two main parties, Dem and Rep, was pretty much assumed as a professional courtesy.

Not sure how long that's gonna last.

Yes. Several folks, myself included, answered this the last time you asked.

Yeah, apparently the DNC also knew Obama was not qualified under Article I Sec II. Otherwise, why send out the OCON documents with language that is purposely added to obfuscate the question of eligibility. Why does every other OCON document always reference Article I Sec II but not the one for Obama in '08?

the OP has convinced himself that when HE deems a question sufficient to look into that it carries a new, freshly scrubbed, intellectual perspective that other minds have just glossed over. After all, this issue is new and fresh.

It was said multiple times in a recent thread that the FBI does background checks on presidential candidates to veryfy eligibility. I'll see if I can find it.

Um, no. It's that I've never seen anybody even ask it. This is not partisan in any way shape or form. I legitimately just want to know who the hell does this work.

I did not see that.

So you think in the course of these background checks, they go to the length of ensuring his mom fulfilled the criteria for him to be 'natural born'?

I really don't know if they actually do the background checks. I'd never heard the FBI angle before reading that thread and actually share your interest in how eligibility is verified. I've never seen it reported by a reputable source.

I think it was in this thread, but many of the posts have been subsequently edited, so I don't see a reference to FBI background checks. I think it was Oopoopahdoo who made the claim, but it could have been someone else.
