If we are talking just prime,

From the 70's 2 good ones.

Amos Otis, Royals
Ceasar Cedeno, Astros

In his Prime Reggie Jackson was a total beast in all 5 too.

Not bad.

Well, I kinda thought about Reggie but he wasn't a great contact hitter. Only hit .300 once and was a high-strikeout guy.

Reggie had a nice arm, but his defense was no better than average.
Cedeno was another guy who never quite lived up to his hpe- he was supposed to be the next Willie Mays. His defense was legit.

Griffey Jr. in his prime before injury was probably the best if you are really looking at what embodies a "5 tool player"

If Grady Sizemore can avoid any more injuries, he will probably be in that discussion.

Pre-roids Barry Bonds is the greatest 5-tool player of all-time.

Anybody...challenge me.

Mickey Mantle pre leg injuries was the most talented baseball player of all time.

Willie Mays was the best baseball plyer I have ever seen play.

Babe Ruth is hte only baseballl player that was good enough as a pitcher and everyday player to deserve a place in the HOF both a s an everyday player and as a pitcher (had he continue to pitch).

Carlos Beltran once upon a time was in the mix.

Roberto Clemente was better in the 5-tool category because he had the 4 they all had plus the greatest throwing arm from RF in baseball history. It
defied gravity. No one ran on Roberto.

Roberto CLemente has never had a peer as a right fielder.

The ony arm I have seen that was even close was Dave Parker. Dave Parker had more power but RC was clerl;y superior in the other 4 tools.

Maybe you should list the 5 tools in your OP because some posters might not know them. Hit, Power, Speed, Glove, Arm.

A healthy Eric Davis is one of the firsts who came to mind.

Very true, but not this topic is about.

And I can't believe I forgot Clemente. Also, whoever said Canseco is right--in 1988 he was one of the greatest to have ever played. Amazing what he was doing even with the juice.

How about Frank Robinson. He seems to be pretty forgotten in these type of discussions, but dude hit 586 homeruns along with some other pretty guady numbers and awards. Not sure about his speed and defense though, since I never saw him.

Oh.

The topic was not exciting enough to me to read more than half of the first post.

Great one. What a fantastic athlete that guy was. I think he played football, baseball, and basketball and ran track at UCLA. And was awesome at all 4. He was definitely an all-time 5-tooler.

Clemente us most definitely in the top 3, along with DiMaggio.
Guy possessed an absolute cannon. Check out some of his old footage. I dare someone to show me a better arm.

You can't be a top 10 greatest 5-tool player without being among the greatest players. And some of the names being mentioned will never be considered among the greatest players. My list would start with a discussion of who deserves the top spot between Willie Mays and Barry Bonds. I tend to give Mays the edge for playing center field.
