Sonny Jurgensen

I just read that Sammy Baugh was a redhead, but I've never seen a color photo of him from the old days

Sonny Jurgenson was regarged as one of the finest pure passers in the NFL in his prime.

I gotta disagree.
I'm older than you and remember his prime.
He threw the long ball better than almost anyone but his overall stats were slightly above average.
He was traded straight up for Norm Sneed who was a very mediocre QB.

From what I've read, Jurgenson was regarded almost on the Marino level when it came to passing. His problem was reading defenses,

This honestly does not compute, is this just another way of saying he can really sling the ball around, it just winds up in the other teams hands more often?

Arm strength, touch, accuracy, and reading defenses are all different things

When it comes to purely passing a football, Marino was the greatest I've ever seen.

As I've posted here before, I once saw him throw a pass -- almost a flick of the wrist, really -- 40 yards while barely planted on his right foot, to hit a guy in stride at the goal line for a TD.

Jurgenson, from what I've read, was close to that. This ability has nothing to do with reading a defense.
