Since we got HBO for Game of Thrones, we can now enjoy the rest of HBO's original programming.

Wife and I are starting with True Blood. What's the boards thoughts on it? Worth catching up on?

It's quirky, but I like it. Start with season one or the story arc won't make a lot of sense. It's not as skin intensive as some original programing on the premium channels, but 'Rogue' seems to enjoy getting naked every chance she gets.

....Yes. Good show. Get's weird, not bad or boring, just freakin weird. I really enjoy the show but it's not for everybody.

This x 1000

Also Love True Blood. Very quirky though, so not for everyone. If you like Twilight, you will not like True Blood

Season 1 of TB is good. I lost interest after that.

Heh, no problem there. But we do like sci-fi/fantasy shows (big fans of Joss Whedon's shows), and we like good dramas. Weirdness doesn't bother us.

Finished episode one. We both enjoyed it.

Enjoyable series IMO, funny moments, dark moments, plenty of sex and violence, sometimes over-the-top but never too gag-inducing. I love the Lafayette characer, he's a scene-stealer, and a lot of the supporting characters crack me up. It's an interesting take on the vampire myth.

I enjoy it. I think its funnier if you're from LA and are familiar with the topography and culture. The mistakes they make, such as placing Bon Temps in North LA even though it looks like it's in the middle of a swamp, endear the show to me.

BTW: the one exception to this is whenever you see people doing road work. It's always on a gravel road. I know we have a reputation for being backwards, but .

True blood (IMO) is the most overrated show on tv. There aren't even any likable characters

This about sums it up for me. My wife and I love the series. It's nothing to be taken too seriously, just fun.

Oh, and my favorite character...

My opinion of True Blood (and I started watching when it first came on in 2008):

-Season 1 is great.

-Season 2 is good but the Maryanne BS and orgies got out of hand. The Fellowship of the Sun plotline with Jason made for good TV.

-Season 3 was a big LETDOWN.

I've only read the first 2 books but my sister who read the whole series told me that book 4 was the best book (and a lot of the TB book fans are hoping it will translate to when Season 4 premieres in June). But Alan Ball has really diverted from the books, especially last season. So who knows...
