Why would you have your infielders playing back with a runner on first and no outs in the bottom of the 9th? Would it have been smarter to protect against the steal and keep a possible double-play available?

Doesn't matter when you hang 3 sliders in a row right over the plate.

That runner meant nothing. He was already on base, we only throw out about 10% of the runners stealing against us anyway, so we needed to stay deep and keep as many balls in the infield as possible.
