Really, it all started back in the days of FDR when entitlement programs and excessive government spending were all thrown into the mix.
Programs that were supposed to be temporary have someone how become permanent, such as Social Security. Government agencies that were supposed be short lived still exist today. Eating up budgets and putting a strain on the system.
Both sides have a share in the blame for this mess, but it started waaaaay back in the 30's and 40's.
As things progressed entitlement programs have become vote farms. Nothing more than that. This problem did not start overnight, or recently in the past 10 years. It has been a monster that has been feeding and growing for almost 13 decades now.
