Who's really at fault for the pending government shutdown?

It's the Republican's fault. If they would grow some backbone and stand up to the Tea Party we wouldn't have this mess.

A new poll is out that shows 62% of Americans think the Republicans are playing politics and don't really care how it affects Americans.

This is going to hurt the GOP more in the long term IMO. No one gets everything they want in Washington. This is politics 101.

First, polls are stupid. They just expose the ignorance of the general public; they aren't evidence of truth.

Second, they "don't really care how it affects Americans," really depends on which Americans you are talking about. Will the proposed budget negatively affect those Americans who have lived on the government teat for their entire lives? Yes.

Will it positively affect those of us who have to live in this country past 2025 and will be strapped with the irresponsible decisions made in the last four decades by these POS politicians? Yes.

So, by "stand up to the Tea Party", you mean ignore their demands and allow the country to continue to spend itself into obivion?

Why is this a good idea?

So the dem's controlled the house, senate and president and didn't pass a budget, but it's the republicans fault? You do realize that the republicans took over the house in January and have sent a bill to the senate which they refuse to even discuss, right? Yeah. Obviously those bastard republicans with their super majority, minority in the senate.

Really, it all started back in the days of FDR when entitlement programs and excessive government spending were all thrown into the mix.

Programs that were supposed to be temporary have someone how become permanent, such as Social Security. Government agencies that were supposed be short lived still exist today. Eating up budgets and putting a strain on the system.

Both sides have a share in the blame for this mess, but it started waaaaay back in the 30's and 40's.

As things progressed entitlement programs have become vote farms. Nothing more than that. This problem did not start overnight, or recently in the past 10 years. It has been a monster that has been feeding and growing for almost 13 decades now.

Um, memo to Toddy. This debate wouldn't even be occurring if the Democrats had even TRIED to pass a budget prior to the elections. Talk about no backbone. They were so scared of the elections, they didn't even pass one when they were in freaking CONTROL!!

Wrong on so many levels. When was the budget supposed to be passed and who had control of the White House and congress when it was supposed to be passed? The Dems didn't want to pass a budget because of the 2010 Elections. Some more liberal spin. Face it liberals are destroying our country

Because politics is about compromise. It's very obvious what not compromising yields. NOTHING.

Compromise has gotten us a nearly unpayable debt. Compromise that screws the country for the sake of compromise is a irresponsible practice.

I'm okay with this. Shut the whole thing down.

Toddy, do you dispute the following facts?
1. The budget is currently six months overdue. It was supposed to be done last year.

2. Up until 4 months ago, Democrats held a 77-vote majority in the House, a filibuster proof Senate, and the White House.

3. The Democrats could have prevented these "extreme, always use the word extreme" cuts if they had exercised their constitutional duty while holding both bodies of the legislative branch and the Presidency.

So, when the Dems controlled everything last year and needed to pass a budget (when it was supposed to be passed)...was that the Republicans fault also?

It's also what passing the buck gets you which is exactly what the Dems did. Are you forgetting this?
