Interesting, if Gill-blow has his facts straight, which is not a given.

The main point of interest?

Her BASE salary is 700K, with a chance to make 900K with incentives.

So basically, she is making about what Van would have been making.

While being about 100x easier on the eyes than Van.

Oh, I agree.

My point was, people were throwing this 900K around like it was BASE salary--it's not. This is not an unprecedented bank-breaking; she's making about what Van would have made.

I'm fine with her at this price.

900k base would have been ridiculous for a coach of her stature (promising future, but nothing to really hang her hat on to say she deserves that kind of money).

She will turn out to be an excellent hire I'm sure.

If that's the case, then Joe appears to have done a damn good job in this hire!

Seems like a major coaching up grade for the same base pay and if this doesn't spike fan interest/ticket sales/recruiting...I don't think anything ever will.

Well IF she could do something like get attendance up and add 2000 per game, we had at least 14 games so thats 28000 more attendance per year, and that times $10 (not sure of ticket price) would be an extra $280000 per year and thats NOT including any extra TV money we could get from being more televised.

I know it's very basic math, but it is easy to turn the program around financially with wins.

Whats the recruiting updates thru all these changes. Are we losing/gaining any that have said anything?

LSU women's attendance in 07 was like 5500 pg and last season it was around 3300. So, what you suggest has been done in the past.

Granted, that was during an elite type run, but just saying............

Hell, with the way guys on the forums and call in shows are talking, 5,000 of them will come just to pant over her walking the sidelines.

She said it was a difficult decision and there was some back and forth but she never said she turned down LSU. Not sure where he got that from.

In fairness to GG, it seems to be a poorly written headline.

That she may or may not have "turned down" LSU wasn't the reason for my linking the article; my main point was that her base salary was 700K and not 900K.

This. The headline is misleading as hell--it says that nowhere in the article. But sometimes the writers are not necessarily responsible for the headline.

I'll be honest, watching her press conference I got the impression she left to get closer to her family. She talked more about UCLA than LSU.

I hope all the Cajun accents and alligators don't scare her back to CA.

Then why not make that point in YOUR title?

I was not aware that the LSU women's basketball team was HQ'd in Pierre Part.

She did not turn LSU down. There was a counter offer. I need to hear her say Geaux Tigers or see her Tiger Bait the hag in orange before I start pouring out the love. That said, I think this is a good hire.

I watched the entire video, and I disagree. She was very complimentary of LSU's tradition and commitment to Women's Basketball. She only talked about UCLA a few times, as she should have; they afforded her a great opportunity as a first time head coach.

She opened by paying homage to Sue Gunter which I thought was in great taste. I think she did a great job.

This is Gilbeau, the pseudo journalist, and his editors (maybe) making a story out of whole cloth. Yes, she did say, "I went back and forth." What's she going to say? "I immediately jumped at it because LSU is so much more attractive than UCLA."? Why pissoff the people who hired you as a first-time head coach? To extrapolate what she actually said to "She initially turned it down," (the headline) and, "The former Tennessee guard nearly decided to remain as head coach at UCLA," (what Gilbeau wrote in his story) is nothing but creating a story, instead of just reporting a story for whatever it is worth. Gilbeau.

She was making $300K in Los Angeles which is about the equivalent of making $75K in Baton Rouge.

She will be making $700-900K in Baton Rouge which is the equivalent of making $3 million per year in Los Angeles.
