i have a 22' Berkshire pontoon boat. its rigged up with a 12 volt system but I'm sure its not too difficult to upgrade to 24 volt. I've been looking at the Minn Kota Pontoon models (70). Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you go with the 24V get the 80 lb thrust digital.

I second this. I bought a motorguide for my bayboat and it sucks big time.

Yeah I heard the same thing. Minn Kota it is- just need to figure out the 12-24 volt switch

Just run a heavier guage wire...will have to put a new TM plug in...add a battery tray and battery.

I would also think the wiring on a pontoon boat would be pretty easy to get to.

what the hell is wrong with people?
Why all the Motorguide hate?
I've seen numerous Minn Kotas break, mounts bend easily, just overall break in some way or another.
Also seen Motorguides break.
They all break, just stop by the Trolling Motor shop and look for yourself.
Me,I have the SW75 remote controlled Motorguide on my Kenner bay boat.
Has been a great/fun motor with regular lubrication maintainence.

Here's a shot of it mounted on the bow of my rig.

I have also had good luck with motorguides. Currently running one on my boat now.

I have had both brands and they are ok, the MG is not as heavy as the MC.

Problem with the MG is the mounting to the bracket. Dam thing makes all kinds of noise when you use it. It flexs all over the place. Major POS!

Motor Guide with the gator mount is pretty rock solid.

did you even look at the mount on mine in the pics I posted?
Just swivels straight down.
No noise at all.

Probably won't help much but I have an old evinrude trolling motor on my 19 ft Cajun and it's been working just fine for 15 years. Still as quiet as it was when boat was new
