My mom attended both Istrouma and BR high in the mid-late 50's (graduated in 59). She has some great stories about football games she watched. Saw both Cannon and Taylor in high school. She said they were some fierce rivals.

Dad, where is that old link about Roy or Broussard,etc..that created the sodium/potassium Tiger Aid drink before Gatorade came along later. I remember reading it years ago here.

My father used to tell me about it as a kid at Foxy's. He worked out at Alvin Roy's for a while, and was a friend of Foxy's..one of those men that bought an lifetime membership to help Foxy get the startup capital going..

What Exactly Do Sports Drinks Do?
By: Chad Thurwell on Thu Mar 20, 2008
In 1958, Dr. Martin Broussard, an athletic trainer at the Louisiana State University created Bengal Punch, the world's first sports drink, for the university's football team, The LSU Tigers, or Bayou Bengals.

In 1965, Robert Cade, Harry James Free & Dana Shires of the University of Florida created a re-hydrating sports drink for the University of Florida's football team, named Gator-ade after Gator Dan, the team's mascot, and the team would officially adopt the drink in 1967, winning the Orange Bowl title that year.

Bengal Punch was a sports drink created in 1958 for the Louisiana State University football team. It is believed to be the first sports drink ever created, pre-dating Gatorade by seven years. It was created by Dr. Martin Broussard, the long-time LSU athletic trainer who served the university from the mid-1940s until the early 1990s.
