I moved here about a year ago and I am finally settled in enough to start taking full advatage of everything going on around here so I'm looking to get into some fishing. Either some wade fishing, off the beach, or boating. I know a majority of the fishing is Saltwater. I haven't been fishing since I was about 9 so any help on getting set up would help. My Father in Law gave me a Abu Garcia Reel and an https://store.americanrodsmiths.com/products/productdetail/Trout%20Special/part_number=LS-TS/3643.0.1.1.73885.73888.73799.0.0?pp=8&
So do you think this would be a good set up? Taking it to a place to get strung this week. Any other info I should read up on? Thanks for the help!

that set up will do fine
now go buy some she-pups, super spooks, and bone spook top waters from academy along with some TTF soft plastics with assorted colors and some jig heads. get a wading accessory belt too while you're there, they are about $20 and can hold your tackle, pliers, and they have rod holders to put your rod in while you handle fish. don't forget a stringer(should come with the wading belt though). this is all if you're fishing arti bait, if fishing live just go to any of the bait shops, grab a quart of live shrimp and a bait bucket and some corks
head down to the surf anywhere along the island from late april-july early morning or evening for the specks and smacks... do yourself a favor and wear some water shoes and shuffle your feet and have a quick release on your stringer for the sharks
hit up between the 2nd & 3rd sandbar

Also find a cut rate tackle around you and go buy the book about Wadefishing and Kayak fishing the galveston area. I don't know the exact name of it, but the guys there will know.
Very informative book that gives photos and maps of locations that are easy to get to, both bay side and gulf side.
Went and looked up the name of the book...
Texas Coastal Fishing - Wade & Kayak Fishing - Upper Texas Coast by Ray Crawford

I usually spool one of my setups with 12-15lb monofilament and one setup with 20-25lb power pro braided line
it's all based on preference, there are pros and cons to each type
