In sports history? Trying to go with guys who actually played a full, healthy career but just never lived up to the massive hype.

Basketball: Kwame Brown

Football: Tony Mandarich

Who else?

Drew Henson and Josh Booty. I bet if either focused on one sport, they would have been much better.

As mentioned in the earlier thread, Sebastian Telfair. I still think Kwame was a bad draft choice at number 1 overall. A guy who averaged 20 points per game in the GA public school league while being 6'11" is not exactly awe-inspiring.

Darko Milicic.

Yeah, he is definitely a confusing one. Unlike Skita and the other Euro busts of the early 2000s, Milicic had put up outstanding numbers in the U-20 tournaments, and while he wasn't putting up amazing numbers against senior competition, he was only 18 or 19. Chad Ford loved him.

Let's give Freddy a couple of years. He is playing the best club soccer of his life right now, albeit not in a great league.

That is all you could think of? Bush has been at least mediocre to average and he does not face the pressure of being a franchise QB. Adam Morrison was not exactly expected to be all-world, but yes he was a letdown, but not a huge letdown. Mark Prior? The guy actually had a few great seasons before his arm exploded, so at least he had some value. Also, none of these guys were the first pick in their respective draft that year, which makes them marginally less of a letdown.

ok, but clearly he will fall FAR short of being the savior of US soccer, yes?

A lot of people will disagree with this but I totally agree, even as a Saints fan. He's had a decent career, but still hasn't broken 100 rushing yards in a game. He's a good 3rd down back. But the amount of hype following him out of USC was ridiculous, Kiper said he would be the best player in the NFL for the next 10 years, I think we can put that hypothesis to rest.

I can't think of his name but who was the guy drafted before Michael Jordan to the trailblazers I think.

he didn't put up amazing numbers. they had little game film on him. And he refused to work out against other players.

and i wouldn't say darko had nearly the hype of LBJ and Melo in that class regardless of his draft position.

he drew gale sayers comparisons coming out of college. His career thus far is the definition of a let down. Has he been awful? No. But no where near his hype or draft position.
