Hog wars...

The last few days have been fun: we caught two pigs this weekend, 150 lb sow and a 50 lb male.
Tuesday night I got two shoot a 110 lb sow while night hunting with a depredation permit. First kill I have made with my latest set-up: it is a Bushmaster AR with a custom lower I built, upper is stock Bushmaster, chambered in .450 BUSHMASTER. Leupold 3.5x10x50mm, with an ATN PS22 night vision attachment and Pulsar IR illuminator. 150 yard shot, pitch black, heavy cloud cover, and drizzle. Knocked her out cold, it is a devastating round and very accurate. Thought some of you might enjoy seeing some death this time of year.

That's a good looking rig!
You have anything bigger than her, it won't fit in that pen...

Kill em all brotha!
Here's the one I've got patterned right now that's gonna die Saturday night if I've got anything to do with it. And I do.
Pig pipe plus some conveniently located crawfish holes that I filled with corn have got him fairly predictable for the last month. Just been waiting on the moon. Filled the pipe today and put out a bunch of corn and sweet attractant. I expect him to be there right after dark Saturday night. Now I'm hoping for enough east in the wind not to get busted before we smoke him.
Gonna let that be my buddy's first hog if we get lucky.

Will enlighten me about your pipe rigs, if you don't mind. I am familiar with them, but have not used them. What do use in them other than corn? What do you build the pipes out of, spacing and diameter of holes, etc.? Thanks! That's a big boy in the picture, can't wait to see him dead!

Mine is just heavy sewer pipe that I put a cap on each end of and a false floor about six inches from the bottom.
I recommend four 5/8in holes 90 degrees from each other spaced evenly down the pipe.
The false floor I cut out of a plastic tray I had, then I drilled a bunch of small holes in it so scent can get into the pipe but not much moisture will. In there I put rocks, a sponge soaked in attractant, apple slices, whatever. To place it in the pipe it's easiest to just put some screws in place then drop it down on top of it then glue it in.
The rocks add an auditory element to it so that he associates the sound of the rocks with the corn coming out and since he will never be able to get to the smell of the scents wafting from the holes, he'll sit there rolling it around forever if there's any corn left at all in it and will keep checking it for days after when there's not. Plus it will wake you up when you're waiting for him to come in late at night.
On the end I put a regular old stainless eye bolt through the cap with a couple of washers and a lock nut. I beat up the threads behind the lock nut. It's loose and it rotates freely. This is attached to some heavy nylon rope but most folks recommend chain. That's attached to a swivelling dog leash kinda thing and I attach that to a steel hoop that I drop around a piece of rebar I pounded into the ground.
Combine that with corn holes dug in the area and you've got a pig entertainment system that will keep him in place so you can choot him.

Thanks Faxis. I use the hog hole method also, it's amazing how deep those bastards will dig! If you get a chance, please post a picture of your pipe rig. Your description and logic is great. I need to add some of these. I also use OnTime Peg Leg automatic feeders, they are a pain in the arse, and I hate them for deer hunting, but they will keep hogs active in an area effectively, and are not that expensive. Thanks for the info.

Thanks again for the info and the link, definitely going to use these in my setups.
You're probably not even home yet, but can't wait to see if you hosed that big boy under the light of the "Super Moon" tonight.
I plan to hunt tomorrow night, cheers!
