It says they only hit 5 doubles and 1 triple. The coach even told the players to stop at 1st and only take one base at a time.

Did everything they could to not run it up short of striking out on purpose.

then they must not be very smart. i'm sure i could get out 100% of the time if i tried without striking out

I seem to remember some games in the 20s in College baseball regionals, not a huge baseball fan though.
