Taking a trip to Maui for 7 nights and Los Angeles for 3 nights. What restaurants should we be sure to eat at?

In Maui, you absolutely have to go to Paia Fish Market.
PAIA FISH MARKET
It's on the main road in Paia (on the way to Hana). We stopped on our way back from Hana and ordered dinner to go. Hands down, the best fish tacos I've ever had. Also, the potatoes and rice are incredible! It was so good, in fact, that we went again for lunch before we left Maui.

From this board, I learned about the best banana bread EVER. There's a little stand on the left just after you begin the Road to Hana. They sell huge chunks of fresh, warm banana bread for $5. It was heaven.

I'm not a big eater anymore, so I didn't scout out many places. We rented a condo so that I could have access to a kitchen to prepare my own meals. None of the other meals we had were very memorable.

I hope you have an amazing time! We loved Maui.

Very good but it's just a steakhouse...

I'd go downtown by 3rd and Fairfax...you're right by the Los Angeles Farmer's market (which btw is fricking amazing) and there are about 13 Ethiopian restaurants on that one block.

I would say while you're in that area to take advantage of some food that isn't as accessible to you in the south. I'd recommend trying some Malaysian food for sure.

What area are you staying? Downtown?

Some places my wife and I like in Maui

For high scale dinning there is Pacific'O located on the far end of Lahaina. It is a great restaurant, the chef owner has his own garden in upcountry where he gets all fresh vegetables. It is pricey but very good. Reservations are needed.

Pacific'O's sister restaurant is I'O. It is a little cheaper but still great food.

Ma'la is great food. The dinning on the patio during sunset is absolutely fantastic.

For a good happy hour try Moose McGillicuddy’s. Food is just your average bar food but they have a very good happy hour.

For a cheaper dinner try Aloha Mixed plate. Pretty traditional dishes and not too expensive.

If you want sushi there is a great sushi restaraunt up the highway in Kapalua called Sansei sushi. The freshest sushi I have ever had.

Also, you CAN NOT miss the Maui brewing company brew pub that is just a few miles from Lahaina. The beer is awesome and the food is pretty good too (try the fish and chips). And you have to get a coconut porter (great beer).

For the best (also most expensive) luau experience (if you have to have one of those) try the place right next to Pacific'O (Feast at LeLe - thanks to poster below for remembering name). I heard it is the best but forget about the name.

Then just walk down main street in Lahaina and window shop and stop in to any of the various restaurants that you see something that looks good on the menu.

In LA, Osteria Mozza. By far one of the best meals that I have ever had.

I really regret not going there while I was there

I'm looking at some of the pics on yelp right now. (They have 300 photos!)

Looks like the type of place you could eat at for a week straight and be fat and happy after every meal.

I second pacifico's in maui. Great place. Also, check out the place at the four seasons for lunch. Best cobb salad I have ever had. Damn expensive, but well worth it. And the four seasons maui is just a cool place to visit, even your not staying there
