Had no idea this guy was running this stuff from Houston...

quote:

Had Brian McCarthy run his website, which offered the free streaming of sports and pay-per-view events, from a foreign country, federal authorities might have shut him down and left it at that.
But McCarthy, using the domain name Channelsurfing.net, ran his operation from his home in Deer Park, and agents from Homeland Security and two other federal agencies shut down his operation and hauled him to jail on a charge of copyright infringement.
McCarthy, 32, was arrested at his home Thursday by agents with Homeland Security Investigations in Houston. The arrest follows the Feb. 1 seizure of his website's domain name, Channelsurfing.net.

Stealing entertainment helps the terrorists win. Didn't you Dubya's memo?

They cover intellectual property crime for some reason.

I really hate our government sometimes. This guy wasn't really hurting PPV's earnings.

I'm thinking they cover cyber terrorism and somehow it's tied to their expertise in that. Still seems like it should be FBI to me though.

you don't think so? I'd bet that these sites pull a lot of money away.

Not that I don't agree with these sites because they're convenient, but I certainly can see how illegal they are.

I wish more networks would set up a deal like ESPN3 where you get access through your cable company. That seems like the best setup for everyone and the future of the industry

Everything that I watched on his site was nto offered in my area regardless of how much I would have paid. Had his site not been available, I would not have watched a damn thing nor would I have contributed any money to any copyright holder.

And Homeland Security? give me a f'ing break. If that agency wants to do anything in the Houston area, how about shutting down the sanctuary for illlegals that cross the border with hundereds of pounds of unchecked luggage daily. It is so easy to sneak a dirty bomb into this country through our southern border and straight up I-35 it is laughable.

I've been saying this for years.

Making shite available and convenient on the internet is too logical.

Didn't channelsurfing just provide the links to the games? It's not like they actually hosted it or anything..

It's okay, but you can't watch live NBC on it, which makes it basically worthless for anything involving sports

obviously with you following soccer you can see how much potential there is for leagues to broadcast games on a ppv set up.

No buying a humongous league package, just simply buying a game by game. European leagues are losing their arse to sites like this because they're not being proactive and doing it themselves.

exactly. I almost pulled the trigger on "live footy" today. I was also just e'splaining to somebody how pissed off I was that I didn't get Sky News or Sky Sports. It's just too easy to get it on line.
