Moved to Houston this week

I've had Hancock Bank for my checking account since I was high school. Need to find a bank in Houston, any suggestions.

I have Capital One credit cards
Franklin Templeton Mutual Funds
Savings is through Hancock as well

Wells Fargo works great for me. They also have banks everywhere.

Really no need for a brick and mortar checking account these days. Plenty have free ATM withdraws and debt awards. So you can check out all the online types ING, etc.

They do have a ton of branches, but I have had a mortgage with them for a few years now and their service is HORRIBLE!!! May be just me. Good luck.

Anybody know when Hancock & Whitney are officially merging?

If soon, I'll just stick with Hancock, there are Whitney Banks around

1. Sign up with any ordinary mega-bank. Make sure you deposit enough to avoid annual fees. If possible, find a promotion that gives you cash for opening an acct. Usually, these will require a couple of months of direct deposit.

2. After a couple of months, start moving all of your savings into ING or another higher-yielding savings acct.

3. Make sure that megabank doesn't start charging you annual or monthly fees. If they do, fudge-em and move your business elsewhere.

4. Always expect crappy service from your friendly neighborhood megabank.
