I was just on the RealTimeRPI website and it looks like all the Louisiana college BB teams are bad. Does the state simply not produce good basketball players? How can a state so rich in football players be devoid of basketball talent?

How can a state like New York be so good at producing basketball players, but not good football players?

La. has produced legit basketball talent.
LSU in particular has missed out on quite a bit of its best talent within the last 5 years.

Right now there are very few high school BB players who could play for major programs. This is the first time in a while where this state has been very weak in talent.

JMO but I think the storms of 05 put the state behind in some respects. When the best player in the state (arguably) is from a 2A school, then not much of a base to start from. I could be wrong but seems like the talent isn't there like it has been in the past, statewide

Hijack: ever heard of PJ Hill and Mike Hart?

Anyways, in NY, particularly in NYC basketball courts outnumber football fields. Streetball is legit out there.

We still had the following in the state since the storms:

Tweety Carter
LaceDarius Dunn
Greg Monroe
Terrence Henry
Marcus Simmons
Leonard Washington

All of those guys span a 3 year period of HS basketball and we missed out on all of them.

Next years senior class should start tending talent upward again. Last few have been pretty weak

in a word... culture.
Louisiana has better weather year-round compared to northern states, so we can play outdoor sports more.
NY was already used in comparison so... We dont have a Madison Square Garden or Rucker Park in our backyard. We have The Dome and Tiger Stadium.

Don't forget about Dwight Lewis (Rummel/USC) and Ryan Francis (Glen Oaks/USC).

Seems like it goes in cyles. The state has been down for a while. The best athletes play football. This state also produces some awesome baseball talent. Look how good the state universities are in baseball compared to basketball.

New York has tons of leagues where kids play over 200 games a year. Also New York has many more kids that have access to a basketball court, and they grow up that way.

Forgot about Biko Paris who I think was the h.s. Scoring champ in La in 2005, then moved to Houston after Katrina. He originally also committed to USC but they were out of scholarships and he's now at Boston College. Tim Floyd had Leonard Washington, Marcus Simmons, Ryan Francis, Dwight Lewis, and had Biko Paris committed. Seems like he had more La. players than the La. Schools. They were all solid players too.

There are basketball courts all over, in the city of 7 million.

there are guys who play handball.
its the handball capital of the USA.
Guys also play a game called stickball. you use a broom handle and a small rubber ball. You develop a great eye.

Lots of tennis courts on Long Island.

culturally Long Island is part of New England, = hockey
the city is very into tennis and hoops.

so you add it all up and with the handball, and hockey and serious tennis, guys dont have time to learn another game well.

Also people play chess. I played chess, hoops and tennis.
THere are usually only one or two players in the USA in the high ranks of chess who live SOUTH of NYC.
If you look at the rankings, look for guys from Louisiana in the chess rankings. NONE.
so... its about how much attention you have for all that.
Louisiana has a tradition and great coaching at all levels of football.
The olympic handball players the USA produces are ALL from NYC. the world ranked chess players the USA produces are ALL from NYC.

We have talent. Brady wasted it and Johnson hasn't had time to be well known in the region. Also it is just down right now.

Brady should have built a mammoth program in the SEC with the instate talent gifted to him.
